Temperature Conditions in Artificial Sea Turtle Nests: Toward Optimized Hatchery Management. [PDF]
This study examined how environmental and management factors, such as wall distance and egg numbers, influence nest temperatures of Olive Ridley sea turtles in a hatchery on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. ABSTRACT Climate change poses a significant threat to species with temperature‐dependent sex determination, such as sea turtles.

Fiddler Crabs (Crustacea: Decapoda: Ocypodidae) From Coastal Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands: Species Descriptions and DNA Barcodes. [PDF]
Twenty‐five taxa were collected during the surveys, while two more were noted from the literature and museum collections; five are new to Ecuador. DNA sequences for cytochrome c oxidase–subunit 1 were obtained for 27 operational taxonomic units with three morphologically indistinguishable cryptic or pseudo‐cryptic taxa were also revealed.

Abstract Fisheries bycatch is a critical threat to sea turtle populations worldwide, particularly because turtles are vulnerable to multiple gear types. The Canary Current is an intensely fished region, yet there has been no demographic assessment integrating bycatch and population management information of the globally significant Cabo Verde ...

Global warming facilitates the nesting of the loggerhead turtle on the Mediterranean coast of Spain
Average summer sand temperature (July 20th–August 10th) at 40 cm deep in Spanish Mediterranean beaches, as reconstructed from air temperature at El Prat beach, has increased from 1950 to 2019 (top figure). As a result, the duration of the viable nesting window for loggerhead turtles (bottom figure) has also increased and the thermal environment has ...

Genetic variation among sea turtle life stages and species suggests connectivity among ocean basins
Regional genetic differentiation based on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) occurs in migratory species with natal philopatry such as sea turtles. To assess connectivity among sea turtle life stages and ocean basins, we (1) genotyped juveniles sampled in the Gulf of Mexico from the rarely observed dispersal stage; (2) estimated rookery contributions using a ...

Sundanellid ctenostomes are a little investigated group of ctenostome bryozoans of ambiguous phylogenetic affiliation. In this study, we describe the soft‐body morphology of sundanellids from two localities, Singapore and Florida, to find characters elucidating the detailed anatomy of these animals and find characters supporting its relationship to ...
