Tospovirus-Thrips Interactions

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2005
The complex and specific interplay between thrips, tospoviruses, and their shared plant hosts leads to outbreaks of crop disease epidemics of economic and social importance. The precise details of the processes underpinning the vector-virus-host interaction and their coordinated evolution increase our understanding of the general principles underlying

Tospovirus transmission depends on thrips ontogeny

Virus Research, 2004
The acquisition of tospoviruses by thrips vectors is restricted to a well defined time period during the first and early second larval stages, when there is a temporary association between mid-gut, visceral muscles and salivary glands. This association is the result of a displacement of the brain into the prothoracic region by enlarged cibarial muscles.

DETECTION OF A NOVEL TOSPOVIRUS IN CHRYSANTHEMUM

Acta Horticulturae, 1996
Up to 1994, tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) was the only tospovirus species reported in chrysanthemum (Dendranthema morifolium) in the Netherlands. Since then, however, occasionally an aberrant tospovirus was found in this ornamental. The virus evoked symptoms similar to those caused by TSWV, i.e.

Distinct levels of relationships between tospovirus isolates

Archives of Virology, 1993
The taxonomic relations of a number of tospovirus isolates, collected in different geographical areas and from different host plants, were studied. To delineate these isolates, properties such as susceptibility of a limited range of host plants, symptomatology, cytopathology, nucleocapsid composition, serology of their nucleocapsid proteins, and ...

Molecular characterization of a new tospovirus infecting soybean

Virus Genes, 2011
A new, widespread disease was recently observed in soybean in the United States. The disease, named Soybean vein necrosis, is manifested by intraveinal chlorosis and necrosis, and has been found in almost all of the 50 fields visited over a period of 3 years in the midwest and midsouth part of the United States.

Possible causes of the emergence of tospovirus diseases

Seminars in Virology, 1994
Abstract Tomato spotted wilt virus, type species of the genus Tospovirus, ranks among the top ten of economically most important plant viruses. From 1980 on, a rapid emergence and geographic expansion of this, and some other tospoviruses, has occurred.

Peptide-derived broad-reacting antisera against tospovirus NSs-protein

Journal of Virological Methods, 2000
Sequence alignments of tospovirus species of serogroup I to IV revealed a stretch of 24 amino acids at the C terminus of the non-structural protein NSs with a highly conserved sequence. Based on this sequence the 24 amino acids peptide YFLSKTLEVLPKNLQTMSYLDSIQC was synthesized and used to raise antisera in two rabbits.

Approach to a general tospovirus assay using antibodies to purified tomato spotted wilt tospovirus G proteins 1

EPPO Bulletin, 1995
The generally assumed presence of common epitopes on the glycoproteins (G proteins) of different tospovirus species should make possible an ELISA with broad reactivity. We have isolated the native G proteins of a type isolate of tomato spotted wilt tospovirus (TSWV) from purified complete virus particles and used them to raise monoclonal and polyclonal
