TOSS

Proceedings of the 5th ACM Workshop on Embedded Systems For Energy-Efficient Buildings, 2013
We propose a system that can accurately determine the occupancy of zones within a building. As an easily deployable sensor system, TOSS provides detailed information about a zone's occupancy to a building's energy management system in order to control the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, (HVAC) and lighting behavior for specific zones within the

Understanding Coin-Tossing

The Mathematical Intelligencer, 2010
The authors demonstrate that although the coin-tossing is predictable, it can also approximate the random process and can serve as the foundation for understanding the behavior of physical randomizers.

Distributed coin tossing

14th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems, 2002
This paper presents algorithms for distributed coin tossing. Distributed coin tossing furnishes a symmetrical way to break the symmetry in a distributed system. They allow the conflicts arising from competing remote sites to be overcome in a fair (equiprobable) manner: any site has an equal chance of being selected.

Unfair coin tossing

2013 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2013
An ideal coin tossing resource for two parties outputs the same random bit to both parties. We introduce the notion of an unfair coin tossing resource by relaxing both the fairness and the non-influenceability guarantees that an ideal coin toss would provide.

If Dwarf Tossing is Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Toss Dwarfs: Is Dwarf Tossing a Victimless Crime?

SSRN Electronic Journal, 1993
This paper explores some legal and philosophical issues surrounding the practice of dwarf tossing, the sport by which dwarfs are thrown for fun and profit. Part I provides an overview. Part II provides some background information regarding the sport.

Aplicação clínica do pico de fluxo da tosse: uma revisão de literatura

open access: yesFisioterapia Em Movimento, 2010
Introdução: A tosse é responsável pela manutenção da via aérea livre de secreção e corpos estranhos. O pico de fluxo da tosse (PFT) é o fluxo expirado máximo medido durante uma manobra de tosse por meio de um peak flow meter.

Coin Tossing

The Mathematics Teacher, 1996
The idea for this article came from a problem that was published before the widespread availability of graphing calculators (North Carolina School for Science and Mathematics 1988). In that publication, Geometric Probability, an interesting analytic solution to the problem about comparing the areas of squares was given and is described later in ...

Counting by Coin Tossings

2004
This text is an informal review of several randomized algorithms that have appeared over the past two decades and have proved instrumental in extracting efficiently quantitative characteristics of very large data sets. The algorithms are by nature probabilistic and based on hashing.

Tosse Aguda
