Creatine supplementation increases total body water without altering fluid distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Objective: To examine the effects of oral creatine (Cr) monohydrate supplementation on muscle Cr concentration, body mass, and total body water (TBW), extracellular water (ECW), and intracellular water (ICW) volumes.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

ALDOA Promotes Glycolysis and NLRP3/GSDMD Pyroptosis to Accelerate ALS Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Glycolytic dysregulation is implicated in disease progression, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how Aldolase A (ALDOA) drives ALS progression through glycolysis‐mediated motor neuron pyroptosis.

Association between body composition components and electrocardiogram parameters: results from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study (FACS)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Objective Cardiovascular diseases as the leading cause of death and disability are increasing worldwide. The present study aimed to investigate the association between total body water, total fat percent, and trunk fat percent with electrocardiogram (ECG)

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

Surgical treatment of varicose veins reduces leg edema and generalized edema: Alleviating clinical symptoms throughout the body

open access: yesVascular Investigation and Therapy
Edema presents itself in two primary forms: generalized edema and localized edema. Previous studies suggest that varicose veins contribute to systemic edema. We investigated if treating them could alleviate symptoms elsewhere.
