Conversion of the Atriopulmonary Fontan Connection to a Total Cavopulmonary Connection

Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual, 1998
Right atrial-to-pulmonary artery anastomosis (modified Fontan-Kreutzer operation) often results in substantial enlargement of the right atrium over time. Massive right atrial dilatation can cause loss of laminar flow, stasis, compression of the right pulmonary veins posteriorly, and leftward shift of the atrial septum.

An alternative technique for completion of the total cavopulmonary connection

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2019
Total Cavopulmonary connection (Fontan) is the final palliation for patients with a functionally univentricular heart. This is commonly accomplished after a prior bidirectional Glenn on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with separate cannulation of the aorta, superior vena cava (SVC), and inferior vena cava.

Introduction of a New Optimized Total Cavopulmonary Connection

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2007
Several variations of the total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) have been investigated for favorable fluid mechanics and flow distribution. This study presents a hemodynamically optimized TCPC configuration code-named "OptiFlo." Featuring bifurcated vena cava (superior venacava to inferior vena cava SVC/IVC), it was designed to lower the fluid ...

the patterns of flow in the total extracardiac cavopulmonary connection

Cardiology in the Young, 2004
more than 30 years ago, fontan and baudet proposed bypass of a dysfunctional right ventricle by connecting the pulmonary arteries directly to the right atrium, the so-called atriopulmonary anastomosis. since then, much experience has been accrued in the field of the functionally univentricular circulation.

Total Cavopulmonary Connection with Off-Pump Technique

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2005
The aim of this study was to evaluate an off-pump technique for total cavopulmonary connection. Between May 2000 and June 2004, 16 patients underwent total cavopulmonary connection without cardiopulmonary bypass. There were 8 males and 8 females, with a mean age of 9.8 ± 6.2 years and a mean weight of 27.7 ± 14.9 kg.

A Skeletalized Representation of the Total Cavopulmonary Connection

ASME 2007 Summer Bioengineering Conference, 2007
Single ventricle congenital heart problems are reported for 2 out of every 1000 live births in the USA. In these cases, mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood occurs in the heart causing severe cyanosis. The Fontan repair is a 3-stage palliative surgical correction technique performed during infancy.

Total Cavopulmonary Connection in a Bedridden Patient with Sotos Syndrome

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2003
Sotos syndrome is an overgrowth disorder of unknown etiology associated with a high incidence of congenital heart defects. Of 60 patients with Sotos syndrome treated in our hospital, 6 had congenital heart defects. We describe a case of successful total cavopulmonary connection at 30 months of age in a patient having pulmonary atresia with intact ...

The Use of the Right Atrial Flap in Total Cavopulmonary Connection

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 1991
A technical modification of total cavopulmonary anastomosis (TCPC) is described. Inferior vena cava (IVC) channel is constructed from the right atrial wall in a fashion similar to Senning's operation. The use of Gore-TexR (W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc.) patch or tube is avoided.

Total cavopulmonary connection for right ventricular endomyocardial fibrosis

European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1992
Endomyocardial fibrosis is an endemic problem in tropical countries and is characterised by ventricular cavity obliteration, decreased ventricular compliance, and atrioventricular valve regurgitation. We report on a patient with right ventricular endomyocardial fibrosis resulting in obliteration of the cavity and tricuspid regurgitation treated ...

Total extracardiac cavopulmonary connection: an alternative technique of fenestration

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2004
Fenestrating an extracardiac conduit used for total cavopulmonary connection normally requires an additional incision on the right-sided atrium and is time consuming. Herein we describe an alternative technique that may be used to facilitate this process, which consists of creating the fenestration by using part of the atrial incision resulting from ...
