Ultrasonic imaging in coarse-grained stainless steels by total focusing method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2016
In the present work, the Total Focusing Method (TFM) is used to image flaws in coarse-grained steels with a contact phased-array probe. In order to reduce the noise introduced by the heterogeneous structure, as well as artifacts due to surface guided waves, the Decomposition of the Time Reversal Operator method is performed before calculating TFM ...

The post-processing of ultrasonic array data using the total focusing method

Insight - Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring, 2004
The use of ultrasonic arrays for NDT has increased significantly in recent years. This is due to the flexibility of array systems which can be electronically configured to produce plane, focused, steered and steer-focusedbeams. In this way, one array transducer can do the job of many standard single-element transducers.

Total Focusing Method with Subsampling in Space and Frequency Domain for Ultrasound NDT

2019 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2019
In this paper, we present a compressed sensing model for 2D Full Matrix Capture data from a uniform linear array. Data is reconstructed via a matrix-free implementation of the Total Focusing Method (TFM) combined with the Fast Iterative Shrinkage/ Thresholding Algorithm.

Research on Detection of Weld Defects with Multi-Wave Total Focusing Method

2019 14th Symposium on Piezoelectrcity, Acoustic Waves and Device Applications (SPAWDA), 2019
In the modern industry, welded structures are widely used, especially in the aerospace and nuclear industries. In order to prevent accidents, defect detection must be performed. Due to the high anisotropy and non-uniformity in the soldered area, the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of the imaging defect is low and the image quality is poor.

Effects of array transducer inconsistencies on total focusing method imaging performance

NDT & E International, 2011
The total focusing method (TFM) is a post-processing imaging algorithm for ultrasonic array data in which the array is synthetically focused at every image pixel. In this paper, the performance of the TFM imaging algorithm is examined in the presence of inter-element variability in the array, coupling and instrumentation.

Implementation of total focusing method for phased array ultrasonic imaging on FPGA

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
This paper describes a multi-FPGA imaging system dedicated for the real-time imaging using the Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Full Matrix Capture (FMC). The system was entirely described using Verilog HDL language and implemented on Altera Stratix IV GX FPGA development board.

Phased array ultrasonic imaging using angle beam virtual source full matrix capture-total focusing method

, 2020
Full matrix capture coupled with total focusing method (FMC-TFM) is one of the most advanced and popular phased array ultrasonic techniques used to achieve simultaneous focusing at all depths in a specimen.

Simulation on qualitative detection of defects with multi-mode total focusing method

2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT), 2018
Multi-mode total focusing method (TFM) is applied to overcome the limitation that defect type is difficult to be accurately determined with conventional ultrasonic testing. The phased array transducer connected with wedge is employed to implement electronic scan and receive the multiple reflected waves generated from defect surface.

Total focusing method for non destructive evaluation: Toward real-time imaging systems

2013 IEEE 56th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2013
This paper describes a dedicated architecture for real-time imaging using the Total Focusing Method (TFM) and an advanced acquisition technique called the Full Matrix Capture (FMC). The architecture was entirely described using VHDL language and implemented on a V5FX70T Xilinx FPGA for the control part and a V5SX95T Xilinx FPGA for the acquisition part.

Adaptive ultrasonic imaging with the total focusing method for inspection of complex components immersed in water

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
In this paper, we propose an ultrasonic adaptive imaging method based on the phased-array technology and the synthetic focusing algorithm Total Focusing Method (TFM). The general principle is to image the surface by applying the TFM algorithm in a semi-infinite water medium.
