Sit-to-Stand Analysis in the Wild using Silhouettes for Longitudinal Health Monitoring [PDF]
We present the first fully automated Sit-to-Stand or Stand-to-Sit (StS) analysis framework for long-term monitoring of patients in free-living environments using video silhouettes. Our method adopts a coarse-to-fine time localisation approach, where a deep learning classifier identifies possible StS sequences from silhouettes, and a smart peak ...

Finite element modelling of shock-induced damages on ceramic hip prostheses [PDF]
The aim of this work was to simulate the behaviour of hip prostheses under mechanical shocks. When hip joint is replaced by prosthesis, during the swing phase of the leg, a microseparation between the prosthetic head and the cup could occur. Two different sizes of femoral heads were studied: 28 and 32 mm diameter, made, respectively, in alumina and ...

In this randomized clinical trial conducted among 142 community‐dwelling older adults at high risk for falls over 12 months, a Dalcroze Eurhythmics exercise intervention (once weekly, group‐based) improved a variety of physical and cognitive/executive function outcomes compared with a multicomponent exercise intervention (twice weekly, group‐ and home ...

Hip and knee replacement in lower limb amputees: a scoping review
Background There are many consequences of lower limb amputation, including altered biomechanics of gait. It has previously been shown that these can lead to increased rates of osteoarthritis (OA).

AISI 304L stainless steel powder is mixed with silicon nitride (Si3N4) powder and processed by PBF‐LB/M, allowing partial retention of Si3N4. The numerical approach effectively predicts the Si3N4 powder homogeneity and N content distribution on the powder bed. Recent studies have focused on the alloying of nitrogen (N) in high‐alloy stainless steels by

Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed FeCr(Si)N Stainless Steel
The alloying element Nitrogen enhances stainless steel strength, corrosion resistance, and stabilizes austenite. This study develops austenitic FeCr(Si)N steel production via powder metallurgy. Fe20Cr and Si3N4 are hot isostatically pressed, creating an austenitic microstructure.

Process optimized minimally invasive total hip replacement
The purpose of this study was to analyse a new concept of using the the minimally invasive direct anterior approach (DAA) in total hip replacement (THR) in combination with the leg positioner (Rotex- Table) and a modified retractor system (Condor).

Improving fretting corrosion resistance of CoCrMo alloy with TiSiN and ZrN coatings for orthopedic applications [PDF]
Total hip replacement is the most effective treatment for late stage osteoarthritis. However, adverse local tissue reactions (ALTRs) associated with fretting corrosion have been observed in patients with modular total hip implants. The purpose of this study is to increase the fretting corrosion resistance of the CoCrMo alloy and the associated metal ...

Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.
