Total Inferior Turbinectomy: Operative Results and Technique

Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, 2000
The internal nasal structures, including the turbinates, regulate the nasal airflow. The surgical treatment of turbinate hypertrophy remains controversial. A wide variety of surgical procedures is performed, with universally unsatisfactory results. Interference with nasal physiology and possible postoperative complications have been the main reasons ...

Complications following total inferior turbinectomy: facts or myths?

Clinical Otolaryngology, 1987
Various surgical procedures have been described for the relief of chronic nasal obstruction due to inferior turbinate hypertrophy, but none has been consistently satisfactory. We have performed total inferior turbinectomy for this condition for 5 years. Of the 39 patients followed for at least 2 years, 90% were relieved permanently of nasal obstruction.

Comparative Study of the Effectiveness of sub mucosal Partial Inferior Turbinectomy and Out fracture of Inferior Turbinate in the Nasal Respiratory Function of Rhinoplasty Patients [PDF]

open access: yesAesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2019
INTRODUCTION: The inferior turbinate is a critical and dynamic structure during rhinoplasty in the internal valve. Many surgeons try to preventively reduce its resistance against the path in the post-rhinoplasty period. To this end, the two methods of

Aerodynamic impact of total inferior turbinectomy versus inferior turbinoplasty – a computational fluid dynamics study

Rhinology journal, 2020
The aim of this study was to investigate using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) the effects on nasal aerodynamics of two different techniques for reducing the inferior turbinate. This may assist in surgical planning to select the optimal procedure.Virtual surgery using two techniques of turbinate reduction was performed in eight nasal airway ...

Use of the Nd-YAG Laser for Inferior Turbinectomy: A comparative study

open access: yesClinical Medicine Ear Nose and Throat, 2010
Nasal obstruction resulting from inferior turbinate hypertrophy was treated by Nd-YAG laser inferior turbinectomy (laser IT). The effectiveness of the procedure was assessed and compared with both functional endoscopic turbinoplasty (turbinoplasty) and ...

Total Inferior Turbinectomy for Nasal Airway Obstruction

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1985
A variety of surgical procedures are performed to open the nasal airway chronically obstructed by hypertrophic inferior turbinates. Because the results are universally unsatisfactory, we suggest bilateral total inferior turbinectomy to patients in whom medical therapy fails.

Total Inferior Turbinectomy: Benefits and Complications

American Journal of Rhinology, 1990
Between 1975 and 1987, 115 patients underwent inferior turbinectomy and 87% were available for review. The nature and extent of their pre- and postoperative symptoms were determined, and rhinoscopy was undertaken to establish the completeness of turbinectomy and the presence of intranasal complications.

Changes in Olfactory Acuity Induced by Total Inferior Turbinectomy

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1986
The short-term and long-term effects of total inferior turbinectomy on smell acuity was assessed in two groups of patients. Olfactory thresholds were determined by a three-way forced-choice method, using four odorants. Resection of obstructive inferior turbinates resulted in a decrease in olfactory thresholds in 22 of 24 tested patients. No deleterious
