Revision of Total Knee Arthroplasty

In 72 knees, revision total knee arthroplasties were comparable in results with primary operations. There was a higher incidence of extensor mechanism problems and less complete relief of pain. Although the incidence of postoperative radiolucencies was high, these were nonprogressive and, in most cases, not harbingers of progressive loosening. Revision

Anametric Total Knee Arthroplasty

The early experience with the anametric knee prosthesis shows it to be effective in achieving the aims desired in total knee arthroplasty. Decreased pain and improved function have been noted in most patients, with relatively few complications. In osteoarthritics, patellar replacement increases the level of improvement.

Alignment of total knee arthroplasty

A series of 65 total knee arthroplasties performed by the senior author was evaluated to determine the effect of alignment on outcome. Radiographs and results of clinical examination were reviewed. Sixty-one of the 65 knees were in varus on the mechanical axis (ie, the weight-bearing line passed through the medial compartment).

Polycentric Total Knee Arthroplasty

Polycentric total knee arthroplasty in 56 patients provided significant relief of pain in 90.7% and a stable knee in 92.7%. Postoperative increase in range of motion averaged 13.7 degrees for all patients (18.5 degrees in rheumatoid arthritis and 8.7 degrees in degenerative arthritis).
