Total mercury, methyl mercury and sulphide in river carron sediments
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1983Total mercury, methyl mercury and sulphide contents of River Carron sediments (Lothian, Scotland) have been determined. Total mercury concentrations are comparable to other mercury polluted estuaries in the UK, but the methyl mercury values for low-sulphide Carron sediments are generally higher.

Titrimetric analysis of total mercury ions including mercury(I) ions
Monatshefte für Chemie - Chemical Monthly, 2008A systematic analytical method is proposed and applied to directly determine the total concentration of Hg(II) and Hg(I) ions in water. Experimental results demonstrate that this method provides a low detection limit of 0.05 mM and small relative error within 1.5% in an ion concentration range of 0.2–50 mM.

Total mercury and methyl-mercury contents and accumulation in polar microbial mats
Science of The Total Environment, 2015Although polar regions are considered isolated and pristine areas, the organisms that inhabit these zones are exposed to global pollution. Heavy metals, such as mercury, are global pollutants and can reach almost any location on Earth. Mercury may come from natural, volcanic or geological sources, or result from anthropogenic sources, in particular ...

Mercury (Hg) stable isotope signatures are widely used to understand Hg cycling in the environment. Sample preparation methods for determining Hg isotope ratios by CV-MC-ICP-MS vary widely among laboratory facilities and sample types. Here, we present a novel and rapid method for preparing solid samples prior to determining Hg isotope composition.

Bioaccumulation of Total and Methyl Mercury by Arthropods
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2008Three arthropods, Locusta migratoria manilensis, Acrida chinensis, and Paraten-odera sinensis were selected to study the bioaccumulation of total and methyl mercury. Concentrations of total mercury in the tissues of Locusta migratoria manilensis and Acrida chinensis were 0.013-0.154 and 0.009-0.138 mg/kg, respectively, while those of methylmercury were

Total mercury determination in sand boxes from Montreal
J. Environ. Monit., 2004Direct mercury analysis was successfully applied to determine trace levels of total mercury in samples from sand boxes in Montréal (Québec, Canada). Twenty sand boxes were sampled from across the city and divided into two size fractions, a fine fraction (

Factors influencing total mercury levels among Lebanese dentists
Science of The Total Environment, 2002The aim of the current study is to examine the various factors, which contribute to high levels of mercury (Hg) in the hair of Lebanese dentists. The survey, which was carried out on ninety-nine dentists in the greater Beirut area, included a structured questionnaire designed to provide information about the parameters that influenced their ...

Determination of total mercury in sediments and soils
The Analyst, 1972A highly sensitive and precise procedure has been developed for the quantitative determination of total mercury in sediments and soils. Undried samples are treated with concentrated nitric and sulphuric acids, potassium permanganate and potassium persulphate in order to digest and oxidise all forms of mercury to mercury (II) ions, which are ...

Total Mercury in Carnivorous Fish from Brazilian Southeast
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2015Total mercury concentrations were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry in muscle tissue of two commercially important species of carnivorous fishes croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) and cutlassfish (Trichiurus lepturus) caught in Itaipu estuary, Rio de Janeiro.

Relationship between sediment clay minerals and total mercury
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2011A group of 262 sediment samples were collected from various lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and bayous of Louisiana. All samples were analyzed for total mercury. Twenty nine of the samples with total mercury content ranging from 11 to 401 ppb (μg/kg) were analyzed for clay minerals and other sediment physical and chemical properties.
