Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

The Effect of chemo- and radiotherapy on tumor necrosis in soft tissue sarcoma– does it influence prognosis?

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors. Wide surgical resection is standard, often combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or both.

Surgical Treatment of Patients with Adenocarcinoma of the Distal Esophageal Portion and Gastroesophageal Junction Performed After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy and Combined Chemoradiation

open access: yesActa Medica Bulgarica, 2022
Esophageal carcinoma is an extremely aggressive cancer with an early distant spread, high rate of local recurrence, and low overall survival. Herewith we present 3 patients with advanced moderately and low differentiated adenocarcinomas, who underwent ...

The relationship between systemic inflammation and stoma formation following anterior resection for rectal cancer: a cross-sectional study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Introduction: There is evidence that temporary defunctioning stoma formation in patients undergoing anterior resection reduces the risk of anastomotic leakage.

A 3D Bioprinted Spheroid‐Laden dECM‐Enriched Osteosarcoma Model for Enhanced Drug Testing and Therapeutic Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D biomimetic OS model was developed by bioprinting an OS‐cell‐derived dECM‐enriched bioink with OS spheroids incorporated. The model showed upregulation of known OS prognostic markers and increased resistance to doxorubicin, compared to 2D cultures and scaffold‐free spheroids, making this a more clinically relevant platform for drug discovery ...

Phase II trial of preoperative radiochemotherapy with concurrent bevacizumab, capecitabine and oxaliplatin in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Preoperative radiochemotherapy (RCT) with 5-FU or capecitabine is the standard of care for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). Preoperative RCT achieves pathological complete response rates (pCR) of 10-15%.

Efficacy and Safety Assessment of 5‐Fluorouracil, Irinotecan and Oxaliplatin‐Loaded Implants in Mouse and Pig Models for Pancreatic Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel FIRINOX‐loaded implant demonstrates controlled drug release, and potent therapeutic efficacy in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma mouse models with safety confirmed in a large‐animal pre‐clinical model. This innovative drug delivery platform offers a promising new treatment approach for non‐resectable, treatment‐resistant pancreatic cancer ...

Reducing gastrointestinal anastomotic leak rates: Review of challenges and solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Various techniques and interventions have been developed in an effort to obviate gastrointestinal anastomotic leaks. This review is intended to delineate potential modifications that can be made to reduce the risk of anastomotic leaks following ...

Radiotherapy Enhancement by Gold Nanocluster‐functionalized Nanoliposomes Using Polychromatic Orthovoltage X‐ray Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Lipid drug carriers to which ultra‐small gold nanoparticles were added enabled more efficient radiotherapy of cultured pancreatic cancer tumors. These nanoparticles boosted radiation‐induced damage to tumors by generating more reactive molecules, though higher gold levels are needed for strong benefits.

Pretreatment with VEGF(R)-inhibitors reduces interstitial fluid pressure, increases intraperitoneal chemotherapy drug penetration, and impedes tumor growth in a mouse colorectal carcinomatosis model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cytoreductive surgery combined with intraperitoneal chemotherapy (IPC) is currently the standard treatment for selected patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal cancer.
