Total organic carbon measurements reveal major gaps in petrochemical emissions reporting

Science
Anthropogenic organic carbon emissions reporting has been largely limited to subsets of chemically speciated volatile organic compounds. However, new aircraft-based measurements revealed total gas-phase organic carbon emissions that exceed oil sands ...

Total Organic Carbon Analyzer For ISS

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">On the International Space Station (ISS), atmospheric humidity condensate and other waste waters will be recycled and treated to produce potable water for use by the crews. Space Station requirements include an on-orbit capability for real-time monitoring of key water quality parameters, such as total organic ...

Organic-free water for total organic carbon determination

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1980
Abstract Commercially available “organic-free” water is compared with water cleaned by ultraviolet (u.v.) radiation for applicability to total organic carbon determinations. The u.v.-treated water contains an organic carbon concentration less than the detection limit of the method used (0.056 mg C l-1).

Determination of protein concentration by total organic carbon analysis

Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, 1991
Determination of the carbon concentration in protein solutions by total organic carbon analysis was found to be a sensitive and reliable method for the estimation of protein concentrations. Using a carbon content of 0.53 g/g in protein and of 0.44 g/g in carbohydrate, the concentrations of normal proteins, proteins containing chromophoric groups, and ...

Total Organic Carbon and Carbon Isotopes of Sediments

1981
This research project addresses the question: do the isotopes of carbon in the organic matter of the sediments within and around the Buccaneer Field indicate that any alteration of the sedimentary organic matter has resulted from drilling and producing operations?

Determination of total organic carbon – an overview of current methods

TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 2004
This article summarizes the most important and current methods for the determination of total organic carbon (TOC) in solid samples. The methods presented are chemical oxidation, combustion, acid treatment and ashing. We discuss the advantages of the different methods as well as problems that can be encountered during analysis.

Performance of granular activated carbon for total organic carbon removal

Journal AWWA, 1982
The results of papers presented at the second of two conferences concerning the state of the art of the application of oxidation and adsorption techniques (including granular activated carbon) in the treatment of drinking water were analyzed for their application to GAC use in the United States.

Mapping the total organic carbon in the soils of the Congo

Global and Planetary Change, 2002
A map of the main landscape units of Congo containing 31 cartographic units was established using vegetation and parent rock types, particle-size distribution and hydromorphy in soils. The average carbon stock in each unit was calculated to a depth of 2 m.

Scottsdale adsorbs total organic carbon problem

Journal AWWA, 2004
This report discusses a case study where the City of Scottsdale, Arizona, will be impacted by the proposed Stage 2 Disinfectants/Disinfection Byproducts Rule (D/DBPR) in its treatment of Salt River Project (SRP) water. The SRP water is a combination of moderate total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations, high water temperature, and free chlorine which ...
