Reevaluation of Total‐Column Ozone Trends and of the Effective Radiative Forcing of Ozone‐Depleting Substances

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
We evaluate total-column ozone trends using a piecewise linear regression approach and maximizing usage of five gridded total-column ozone datasets. The new approach yields more consistent estimates of observed ozone loss during 1979-2000, when halocarbon concentrations were increasing, and consequently, using CMIP6 simulations, an increased Effective ...

Temporal and spatial variabilities of total ozone column over Portugal

Remote Sensing of Environment, 2011
Abstract This paper focuses on the spatial–temporal structure of total ozone column (TOC) over Portugal. This relevant region of southwestern Europe has not been evaluated yet in detail due to the lack of continuous and well-covered ground-based TOC measurements. The data used in this study are derived from the NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer

Validation of gome total ozone column with the assimilation model KNMI

Advances in Space Research, 1998
The two-dimensional global Assimilation Model KNMI (AMK) is used to validate GOME total ozone columns. A method is developed to derive an upper limit on the intrinsic (random) uncertainty in the GOME ozone values which makes use of the information carried in the model by a reliability flag.

Using neural network ensembles for the operational retrieval of ozone total columns

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
This paper presents the operational retrieval of ozone total columns from atmospheric spectrometers using an algorithm based on neural network ensembles. Single neural networks are trained to approximate subregions of a complex multidimensional function; the neural networks are then combined using the mixture-of-experts model.

Regional short-term forecast of total column ozone

Atmospheric Environment, 1995
Abstract An algorithm for predicting the regional distribution of total column ozone (Ω) is described. It is based on locally representative regressions between Ω, and temperature and geopotential at different standard levels of the preceding and/or the day considered.

Multifractal Analysis of Global Total Column Ozone Image

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
Ozone depletion is an important contributor to global environmental change. Satellite remote sensing provides various kinds of ozone imagery every day. As an important natural property, we investigate multifractal characteristics of global total column ozone (GTCO) images and explore their change over time with a series of month‐average GTCO images ...

On short-term total-column-ozone-forecast errors

Atmospheric Environment, 1997
Abstract The accuracy of short-term predicted total-column ozone amount, Ω, is reported to be 10–12 DU or about 3–4%. This result was achieved by several authors independently using linear multiple regressions with different predictors. The operational procedure of the German Weather Service to predict Ω uses as predictors the ozone amount of the ...
