Porosity analysis of three types of balsa (Ochroma pyramidale) wood depending on density
Balsa (Ochroma pyramidale), which is the lowest density wood, is a useful species in various industries. In general, balsa can be divided into three types (low density: LD, middle density: MD, high density: HD).

Determination of Porosity in Fluidized-Bed Carburized P/M Compacts Using an Image Software Analysis
The aim of this research was to study the porosity in carburizing in fluidized-bed on sintered alloys produced by powder metallurgy route using an image analysis software and to compare the obtained results with the conventional method for porosity ...

This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Porosity effects on the neutron total cross section of graphite
For subthermal neutron energies, polycrystalline graphite shows a larger total cross section than predicted by existing theoretical models. In order to investigate the origin of this discrepancy we measured the total cross section of graphite samples of three different origins, in the energy range from 0.001 to 10 eV.

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

IMPACT OF THE REPEATED TRACTOR PASSES ON SOME PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF SILTY LOAM SOIL [PDF]
The aim of this paper was to quantify soil compaction induced by tractor traffic on untilled wet silty loam soil (Mollic Fluvisol). Changes in penetration resistance, bulk density and total porosity were measured for detecting the soil compaction ...
