ABSTRACT Background Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer in Mexico, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most frequent subtype. Exposure to high concentrations of benzene has been associated with ALL incidence, particularly in urban areas. This study evaluated the relationship between distance to benzene emission sources and the number

Correlation matrices of yields and total positivity [PDF]
Using some tools originally developed in the framework of totally positive matrices, the relations between the spectral properties of the correlation matrices of forward interest rates and the positivity and the monotonicity of their elements are investigated.

Enumerative combinatorics, continued fractions and total positivity [PDF]
Determining whether a given number is positive is a fundamental question in mathematics. This can sometimes be answered by showing that the number counts some collection of objects, and hence, must be positive.

Total positivity in the De Concini-Procesi compactification [PDF]
We study the nonnegative part G >0 of the De Concini-Procesi compactification of a semisimple algebraic group G, as defined by Lusztig. Using positivity properties of the canonical basis and parametrization of flag varieties, we will give an explicit ...

High Relative Accuracy for Corner Cutting Algorithms
Corner cutting algorithms are important in computer-aided geometric design and they are associated to stochastic non-singular totally positive matrices. Non-singular totally positive matrices admit a bidiagonal decomposition. For many important examples,

Total Positivity in Stable Semigroups [PDF]
We characterize the total positivity in space-time of real strictly stable semigroups. In the positive case, this solves a problem which had been raised by Karlin. In the drifted Cauchy case, this concludes a study which we had initiated in a previous paper. The case of isotropic stable semigroups is also investigated.

On the Generating Functions of Totally Positive Sequences [PDF]
A real matrix, finite or infinite, is called totally positive if and only if all its minors, of all orders = 1, 2,..., are non-negative. An infinite sequence $$ {a_0},{a_1},{a_2}, \ldots ,\quad \left( {{a_0} = 1} \right), $$ is said to be totally positive(2) if and only if the 2-way infinite matrix Open image in new window is totally ...

ABSTRACT Background Pediatric bone sarcoma patients and survivors may experience psychosocial challenges related to childhood cancer after their intensive, body‐altering treatment. This cross‐sectional study aimed to evaluate generic and survivor‐specific psychosocial outcomes in a national cohort of pediatric bone sarcoma patients and survivors, and ...

On total positivity of Riordan arrays [PDF]
A Riordan array = ( ( ), ( )) is defined as an infinite lower triangular matrix whose generating function of the kth column is ( ) ( ) , where and are formal power series with (0)=1, (0)=0, and ′(0) ≠ 0.
