Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

High pressure catalytic combustion

open access: yes, 2010
The study of catalyst behavior at pressure up to 12 bar during CH4, H2, CO and their mixtures combustion is the main purpose of this PhD thesis. Actually the interest towards catalytic combustion as an alternative route to produce electric power is ...

Experimental Investigation of Total Pressure Loss Development in a Highly Loaded Low Pressure Turbine Cascade

open access: yes, 2017
Improvements in turbine design methods have resulted in the development of blade profiles with both high lift and good Reynolds lapse characteristics.

MEAN SYSTEMIC PRESSURE AND MEAN PULMONARY PRESSURE : THEIR EFFECTS ON THE TOTAL ARTIFICIAL HEART

open access: yesJapanese Circulation Journal, 1976
Mean systemic pressure (MSP) and mean pulmonary pressure (MPF), which are mean driving pressures for venous return in the natural heart, were studied in 11 calves in which the natural heart had been replaced with a total artificial heart (TAH). They were measured simply by stopping the artificial heart pumping.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Effects of Total Intravenous Anesthesia on Intraocular Pressure Changes During Robotic Assisted Radical Prostatectomy

open access: yes, 2016
Background:Nowadays, the place of robotic surgery in the surgical treatment of prostate cancer is increasing day by day. Despite its advantages, the procedure requires specific positioning; steep Trendelenburg position with non-phy-siologic effects as ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
