Influence of combinational distortion generator geometrical parameters on the steady and dynamic components of the total pressure distortion

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering
To construct a method for designing a total pressure distortion generator with adjustable, steady, and dynamic components, we experimentally investigated the influences of combinational distortion generator geometrical parameters on the steady and dynamic components of the total pressure distortion based on an indraft wind tunnel.

Analysis of Turbofan Performance Under Total Pressure Distortion at Various Operating Points

Volume 2A: Turbomachinery, 2015
Inlet distortion is an important consideration in fan performance. The focus of this paper is a series of high-fidelity time accurate Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of a multistage fan at choke, design, and near stall operating conditions.

Estimating maximum instantaneous distortion from inlet total pressure rms measurements

14th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1978
An inexpensive method is developed to determine the extreme values of instantaneous inlet distortion. This method also provides insight into the basic mechanics of unsteady inlet flow and the associated engine reaction. The analysis is based on fundamental fluid dynamics and statistical methods to provide an understanding of the turbulent inlet flow

Improved Prediction Method for the Design of High-Resolution Total Pressure Distortion Screens

51st AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2013
In ground test applications for simulated embedded engine systems, it is often necessary to forego direct-connect inlet/engine configurations and simulate inlet produced distortion profiles. Classically, this has been accomplished through the use of wire-mesh screens layered over a thick supporting grid.

Research on Airborne Real Time Processing and Prediction of Engine Total Pressure Distortion

2020 5th International Conference on Mechanical, Control and Computer Engineering (ICMCCE), 2020
In order to solve the problem that it is difficult to monitor the engine inlet total pressure distortion index online in the flight test, an embedded real-time processing scheme based on airborne general data acquisition system is designed. Through the embedded real-time processing module, the collected total pressure and dynamic pressure parameters ...

The Influence of Duct Development Distance on Screen-Generated Total Pressure Distortion Profiles

49th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, 2013
The rising interest in fan performance subject to total pressure distortion, a topic of fundamental interest for integrated airframe/engine architectures, has led to increased research in ground based testing environments. Included in these studies is the generation of simulated total pressure distortion profiles using wire mesh screens.

Effects of Total Pressure Inlet Distortion on Transonic Fan Blade Wake Properties

Volume 2A: Turbomachinery, 2016
This paper presents results of an experimental investigation of the impacts of total pressure distortions on the performance of a transonic turbofan. Fan rotor response to screen-produced total pressure distortions was measured by two high-frequency response probes (Kulite sensors).

A stochastic pulsation total pressure model and reconstruction of actual distortion patterns

Physics of Fluids
This paper proposes a reconstructed method to simulate the total pressure distortion pattern produced by a baffle plate, utilizing a random sampling technique based on Pearson spatial correlation. The method employs the ratio of the pulsating pressure ΔP to the time-averaged value of the pulsating pressure Pav as a statistic (ΔP/Pav) that follows a ...
