Numerical Simulation on the Influence of Inlet Flow Characteristics on the Performance of a Centrifugal Compressor

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Although inlet bent pipes are usually adopted due to limited installation space, the influences of different bend pipes on the inlet flow characteristics and performance of centrifugal compressors are still unclear.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A Numerical Study on the Impact of Dynamic Distortions in Total Inlet Pressure on the Stability and Performance of an Aero-Engine's Axial Fan [PDF]

open access: yesفناوری در مهندسی هوافضا
In preliminary jet engine design, uniform inlet conditions are typically assumed for the compression section, although real-world engines operate under non-uniform inflows that significantly affect the compressor and overall engine performance.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

An experimental investigation on the interaction between inlet swirl distortion and a low-speed axial compressor

open access: yesScience Progress, 2020
The aim of this article mainly lies in two aspects. The first is to investigate the effect of inlet swirl distortion on the performance and stability of a low-speed compressor experimentally. The second is to quantify swirl pattern revolution through the

A Three-Dimensional Body Force Modeling of Fans in Windmilling Condition and Its Application

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
To investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of the fan in windmilling conditions, a new body force model with the fan rotational speed prediction model was developed.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Wind Tunnel Experiment and Numerical Simulation of Secondary Flow Systems on a Supersonic Wing

open access: yesAerospace
Aircraft secondary flow systems are small-flow circulation devices that are used for thermal and cold management, flow control, and energy generation on aircraft. The aerodynamic characteristics of main-flow-based inlets have been widely studied, but the

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
