Refractometric total protein concentrations in icteric serum from dogs

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 2014
Abstract Objective—To determine whether high serum bilirubin concentrations interfere with the measurement of serum total protein concentration by refractometry and to assess potential biases among refractometer measurements. Design—Evaluation study. Sample—Sera from 2 healthy Greyhounds.

Specific Proteins in Serum of Total-Body Irradiated Humans

The Journal of Immunology, 1966
Summary In the quantitative precipitin reaction anti-XI-HSGG is precipitated by sera collected from seven patients at various times before and after treatment with total body radiation. The data are insufficient to determine whether the effects described are due to a direct effect on preformed proteins and/or an effect on the rate of ...

Total Serum Protein, Serum Protein Fractions and Serum Immunoglobulins in Colostrum-Fed and Colostrum-Deprived Calves

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1977
SUMMARY Total serum protein levels, serum protein fraction levels, and specific serum immunoglobulin class or subclass levels were measured in colostrum-fed (cf) and colostrum-deprived (cd) calves during the first 144 hours after birth. Total serum protein values increased at 24 hours in the cf group and then decreased slightly at 144 hours.

The influence of psychological stress on total serum protein and patterns obtained in serum protein electrophoresis

Psychological Medicine, 1998
Significant alterations in total serum protein (TSP) patterns obtained in serum protein electrophoresis and serum proteins have been reported in patients with major depression and in subjects submitted to a combination of psychological and physical stress.

Total Iodine in the Evaluation of Serum Protein-Bound Iodine

New England Journal of Medicine, 1954
DETERMINATION of the protein-bound iodine of serum is of value in the diagnosis of thyroid disease only if no iodine in any form has been administered for some time before the test. In modern medicine iodine is given in many ways and for various reasons.

Serum cobalamins and cobalamin‐binding proteins during total parenteral nutrition

Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1988
Levels of serum cobalamin and both saturated and unsaturated serum cobalamin‐binding proteins (transcobalamin II and R‐binders) were determined prospectively in 43 patients before and after 2 weeks of total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Nine patients showed subnormal serum levels of cobalamin but none of them had clinical signs of cobalamin deficiency ...

Serum Proteins and Total Glucosamine in Diabetic Retinopathy and Glomerulosclerosis

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1957
The increase in the life expectancy of diabetics which has occurred in the post-insulin era, and which has been further augmented by the general advances in the understanding and treatment of metabolic disorders, has led to an increase in the degenerative complications of diabetes.

An interlaboratory comparison of serum total protein analyses.

American journal of clinical pathology, 1978
An analysis of the 1976 CAP Comprehensive Chemistry Survey of total serum proteins is presented. More than 2,000 laboratories contributed data in this survey. Estimation of total serum protein concentration by the biuret reaction remains the most widely used technic, followed by refractometry.
