Data-parallel total variation diminishing method for sonic boom calculations
Journal of Aircraft, 1996Sonic boom predictions are shown for the near and midfield and comparisons are made with experimental data. The computations are performed on the Thinking Machines' CM-5 massively parallel supercomputer to utilize its large available memory and high floating point performance.

Assessment of total variation diminishing schemes in compressible mixing flow computations
AIAA Journal, 1992Numerical simulations of temporally developing mixing layers using high-resolution total variation diminishing (TVD) schemes have been carried out to investigate the effects of grid resolution and inherent scheme dissipation on the solution quality.

Total Variation Diminishing technique in numerical simulation of Trichel corona in air
Journal of Electrostatics, 2017Abstract This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the Trichel pulse corona discharge in air under the room temperature and atmospheric pressure in the pin-plane configuration. A simplified drift-diffusion model of the discharge is considered with three species: electrons, positive and negative ions.

Improved total variation diminishing schemes for advection simulation on arbitrary grids
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2011SUMMARYThe requirements for flux limiter functions preserving total variation diminishing (TVD) are derived based on a 1D nonuniform grid, and a new TVD region is determined to fit arbitrary 1D grids. Some second‐order TVD schemes called improved TVD schemes are developed, such as modified Van Leer scheme, modified Van Albada scheme, and modified ...

Abstract A discretization procedure for a total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is introduced to an electromagnetic hybrid particle-in-cell (PIC) plasma simulation code in order to improve the numerical stability and resolution when calculating the plasma flow field in which magnetic field discontinuities (for example, Rankine–Hugoniot jump ...

Multiblock implicit total variation diminishing solution of high-speed internal flows
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1993In this article a multiblock finite-volume technique with a second-order total variation diminishing spatial discretization and an efficient implicit time integration has been developed to simulate complex internal flows at high Mach numbers. This method employs a lower and upper approximate factorization of the implicit operator with symmetric ...

Several total variation diminishing (TVD) schemes and the Beam-Warming solution algorithm have been incorporated in a computer code for solving three-dimensional time-dependent , Reynold's averaged NavierStokes equations in generalized coordinates. A finite-volume fully implicit, approximately factored scheme is employed with a time-step convergence ...

Implicit multigrid Euler solutions with symmetric Total-Variation-Diminishing dissipation
11th Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference, 1993A symmetric Total-Variation-Diminishing (TVD) formulation of the numerical dissipation terms has been incorporated into a diagonalized alternating direction implicit multigrid algorithm to solve the Euler equations of inviscid compressible flow. The new treatment of the dissipation makes is possible to capture both very strong and very weak shocks ...

This paper concentrates on a total variation diminishing Hopmoc scheme for numerical time integration of evolutionary differential equations. The Hopmoc method for numerical integration of parabolic partial differential equations with convective dominance is based on the concept of spatially decomposed meshes used in the Hopscotch method.
