Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Stable Central Limit Theorem in Total Variation Distance

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Probability
Under certain general conditions, we prove that the stable central limit theorem holds in the total variation distance and get its optimal convergence rate for all $α\in (0,2)$. Our method is by two measure decompositions, one step estimates, and a very delicate induction with respect to $α$. One measure decomposition is light tailed and borrowed from \

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Optimal stopping time and halting set for total variation distance

open access: yes, 2015
An aperiodic and irreducible Markov chain on a finite state space converges to its stationary distribution. When convergence to equilibrium is measured by total variation distance, there exists an optimal coupling and a maximal coupling time.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Fractional Smoothness of Distributions of Trigonometric Polynomials on a Space with a Gaussian Measure

open access: yesИзвестия Иркутского государственного университета: Серия "Математика", 2020
In this paper we study properties of images of a gaussian measure under trigonometric polynomials of a fixed degree, defined on finite-dimensional space with fixed number of dimensions. We prove that the images of the n-dimensional Gaussian measure under

Approximating the total variation distance between spin systems

open access: yesCoRR
Spin systems form an important class of undirected graphical models. For two Gibbs distributions $μ$ and $ν$ induced by two spin systems on the same graph $G = (V, E)$, we study the problem of approximating the total variation distance $d_{TV}(μ,ν)$ with an $ε$-relative error. We propose a new reduction that connects the problem of approximating the TV-
