Interlacing inequalities for totally nonnegative matrices

open access: yes, 2008
Dedicated to Professor T. Ando on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Suppose λ1 ≥ · · · ≥ λn ≥ 0 are the eigenvalues of an n × n totally nonnegative matrix, and ˜ λ1 ≥ · · · ≥ ˜ λk are the eigenvalues of a k × k principal submatrix.

Nonnegative square roots of matrices

open access: yes, 2016
By the square root of a (square) matrix A we mean a matrix B that satisfies B2=A. In this paper, we begin a study of the (entrywise) nonnegative square roots of nonnegative matrices, adopting mainly a graph-theoretic approach.

Intervals of Almost Totally Positive Matrices

open access: yes, 2001
We consider the class of the totally nonnegative matrices, i.e., the matrices having all their minors nonnegative, and intervals of matrices with respect to the chequerboard partial ordering, which results from the usual entrywise partial ordering if we ...

Chow polynomials of totally nonnegative matrices and posets

open access: yes
Huh-Stevens and Ferroni-Schröter independently conjectured that Hilbert-Poincaré series of Chow rings of geometric lattices have only real zeros. Ferroni, Matherne and the second author extended this conjecture to Chow polynomials of Cohen-Macaulay poset.
