Postoperative Tourniquet Pain in Patients Undergoing Foot and Ankle Surgery

open access: yesFoot & Ankle Orthopaedics, 2018
Category: Other Introduction/Purpose: The tourniquet is commonly used in orthopedic surgeries on the upper and lower extremities to reduce blood loss, improve visualization, and expedite the surgical procedure.

Intrathecal glutamate release during hindlimb tourniquet inflation and femoral artery occlusion in rats

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2013
A tourniquet is commonly used in limb surgery. Tourniquet inflation after a period of time may produce painful sensation. While the mechanisms of tourniquet-induced pain are still unknown, two components, pressure and ischemia, have been proposed.

Comparing Minor Hand Procedures Performed with or without the Use of a Tourniquet: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2021
Background:. Carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger are two of the most common conditions treated by the hand surgeon. During these procedures, a tourniquet is often used to minimize bleeding and improve visualization of the operative field.

Implication of Changes in the Imaging Measurements after Mechanically Aligned Total Knee Arthroplasty

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 14, Issue 12, Page 3322-3329, December 2022., 2022
The tibia is simplified as a two‐dimensional graph, The lower extremities were in an unnatural state within one year after TKA. The changes of the lower extremities force line were actually the common results of the gradual adaptation of the lower extremities to TKA and the lateral swing of the extremities 3° after surgery.

Hemostatic effect of tourniquet combined with tranexamic acid in total knee arthroplasty: a network meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2020
Background There are various techniques to reduce blood loss in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), including the use of a tourniquet and tranexamic acid (TXA).

Development of a Stereo-Vision Based High-Throughput Robotic System for Mouse Tail Vein Injection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In this paper, we present a robotic device for mouse tail vein injection. We propose a mouse holding mechanism to realize vein injection without anesthetizing the mouse, which consists of a tourniquet, vacuum port, and adaptive tail-end fixture. The position of the target vein in 3D space is reconstructed from a high-resolution stereo vision.

Allogeneic Tendon Transplantation for the Treatment of Pathological Patellar Ligament Defect in Children: Technical Note and 4‐Year Follow‐Up

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 14, Issue 12, Page 3431-3440, December 2022., 2022
This article described a surgical technique of allogeneic tendon transplantation technique for children with absence of patellar ligament. At 4‐year postoperative follow‐up, the knee range of motion was in the range of 0°–120°, and the child walked normally without any external help.

Effect of tourniquet use on the risk of revision in total knee replacement surgery: an analysis of the National Joint Registry Data Set

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2021
Objective Tourniquet use in total knee replacement (TKR) is believed to improve the bone-cement interface by reducing bleeding, potentially prolonging implant survival.

A brief history of the tourniquet [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2012
Abstract : The tourniquet is a device first used in antiquity; it has been praised or vilified throughout the ages, as it has been at times life-saving, and at other times limb-threatening.1 It interestingly has become a widely used tool in the current wars of Afghanistan and Iraq by most coalition medics, often with great success.
