Systemic immune changes accompany combination treatment with immunotoxin LMB‐100 and nab‐paclitaxel

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 12, Issue 4, Page 4236-4249, February 2023., 2023
LMB‐100 is an immunotoxin directed against mesothelin, a surface protein expressed by over 85% of pancreatic adenocarcinomas as well as an estimated 30% of all solid tumors. Immunotoxin therapies, while potentially promising, are limited by their side effect profiles, most notably capillary leak syndrome (CLS).

Roundup causes high levels of mortality following contact exposure in bumble bees

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 58, Issue 6, Page 1167-1176, June 2021., 2021
Surfactants, or other co‐formulants, in herbicides and other pesticides may contribute to global bee declines. We recommend that, as a precautionary measure until co‐formulant identities are made public, label guidelines for all pesticides be altered to explicitly prohibit application to plants when bees are likely to be foraging on them.

Real‐World Survival in Patients with Metastatic Melanoma after Discontinuation of Anti‐PD‐1 Immunotherapy for Objective Response or Adverse Effects: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesJournal of Oncology, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Objective. Anti‐PD‐1 has dramatically improved the survival of patients with advanced melanoma. However, there is a lack of data on maintenance of the response after treatment discontinuation. We aimed to evaluate the progression‐free survival (PFS) of patients with metastatic melanoma after anti‐PD‐1 interruption for objective response (OR) or ...

Re‐evaluation of calcium silicate (E 552), magnesium silicate (E 553a(i)), magnesium trisilicate (E 553a(ii)) and talc (E 553b) as food additives

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2018., 2018
Abstract The EFSA Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient Sources added to Food (ANS) provides a scientific opinion re‐evaluating the safety of calcium silicate (E 552), magnesium silicate (E 553a) and talc (E 553b) when used as food additives. In 1991, the Scientific Committee on Food (SCF) established a group acceptable daily intake (ADI) ‘not specified’

Application of a Cold Patch for Relieving Pain after Transepithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy

open access: yesPain Research and Management, Volume 20, Issue 4, Page 195-198, 2015., 2015
Although photorefractive keratectomy often results in better corneal stability and fewer corneal flap complications than LASIK, pain remains a major drawback of the procedure. The authors compared the safety and efficacy of a postoperative cold patch versus intraoperative application of a chilled balanced salt solution on transepithelial ...
