Statistical evaluation of in-vivo bioassays in regulatory toxicology considering males and females [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The separate evaluation for males and females is the recent standard in in-vivo toxicology for dose or treatment effects using Dunnett tests. The alternative pre-test for sex-by-treatment interaction is problematic. Here a joint test is proposed considering the two sex-specific and the pooled Dunnett-type comparisons.

Synthetic cannabinoid use in a case series of patients with psychosis presenting to acute psychiatric settings : Clinical presentation and management issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) are a heterogeneous class of synthetic molecules including synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs). Psychosis is associated with SCRAs use.

Colchicine Concentrations and Relationship With Colchicine Efficacy and Adverse Events: Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial of Colchicine for Gout Flare Prophylaxis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Our objective was to examine the relationship between colchicine plasma concentrations and clinical and demographic factors and to determine the relationship between colchicine concentrations and colchicine efficacy and colchicine‐specific adverse events.

Point Process Modeling of Drug Overdoses with Heterogeneous and Missing Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Opioid overdose rates have increased in the United States over the past decade and reflect a major public health crisis. Modeling and prediction of drug and opioid hotspots, where a high percentage of events fall in a small percentage of space-time, could help better focus limited social and health services.

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.

Proteomic Comparison of the Cytotoxicology of Two Diastereomers of Citreamicin Reveals Differentially Activation of NF-κB Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Citreamicin ε is a group of antitumor compounds produced by Streptomyces species. Cytotoxicology study of two diastereomers, citreamicin ε A and B, showed different apoptotic effects on PtK2 cells with IC50 (half-maximal inhibitory concentration) values ...

Note on PI and Szeged indices [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical and Computer Modelling 52 (2010) 1570-1576, 2011
In theoretical chemistry molecular structure descriptors are used for modeling physico-chemical, pharmacological, toxicologic, biological and other properties of chemical compounds. In this paper we study distance-based graph invariants and present some improved and corrected sharp inequalities for PI, vertex PI, Szeged and edge Szeged topological ...

H2O2‐Generating Advanced Nanomaterials for Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
H2O2‐generating nanoplatforms can exploit tumor redox imbalance for O2 and toxic reactive oxygen species generation, leading to hypoxia reversal, and apoptosis of cancer cells, respectively. This review highlights the mechanisms of these nanoplatforms, including exogenous H₂O₂ delivery, endogenous amplification, and metal peroxides, which leads to ...
