Pathogenic fungus Ustilago maydis exploits the lateral root regulators to induce pluripotency in maize shoots

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Biotrophic plant–pathogens secrete effector molecules to redirect and exploit endogenous signaling and developmental pathways in their favor. The biotrophic fungus Ustilago maydis causes galls on all aerial parts of maize. However, the responsible gall‐inducing effectors and corresponding plant signaling pathway(s) remain largely unknown. The environmentally responsive plant epigenome: insights from jasmonate signaling

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary The environmental responsiveness of the plant epigenome is essential for spatiotemporally precise gene regulation, enabling plants to adapt to external cues. Elucidating the mechanisms underlying this responsiveness is therefore fundamental to deciphering the molecular logic of plant‐environment interactions.

Perioperative Factors Associated With Allogeneic Blood Transfusion in Elective THA

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Early postoperative hematocrit is the strongest and most clinically useful predictor of transfusion risk after primary THA, while cup inclination has minimal discriminative value. A hematocrit threshold of < 0.28 L/L reliably identifies high‐risk patients and should guide transfusion‐related decision‐making.

Strigolactones Regulate Sugar Allocation to Control Rice Tillering and Root Development via the OsSPL14‐OsSHR1‐OsSWEET16 Pathway

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Strigolactones (SLs) are root‐to‐shoot phytohormones that regulate tillering (branching) and root development. Sugar, as an essential energy substance and signalling molecule, plays a fundamental role in the growth and development of plants. However, the molecular mechanisms by which SL directly regulates sugar allocation to control tillering ...
