Regulation of Trabecular Meshwork Contractility

Ophthalmologica, 2000
Ample evidence supports the theory that trabecular meshwork possesses smooth-muscle-like properties. Trabecular meshwork cells express a large number of transporters, channels and receptors, many of which are known to regulate smooth-muscle contractility.

Matricellular proteins in the trabecular meshwork

Experimental Eye Research, 2009
The trabecular meshwork is one of the primary tissues of interest in the normal regulation and dysregulation of intraocular pressure (IOP) that is a causative risk factor for primary open-angle glaucoma. Matricellular proteins generally function to allow cells to modulate their attachments with and alter the characteristics of their surrounding ...

Trabecular meshwork and elastin

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1996
Evidence that elastic fibers with elastin exists in the trabecular meshwork (TM) and play an important role in aqueous outflow resistance is presented. The elastic fibers consist of abundant microfibrillar components containing glycoproteins and amorphous components containing elastin.

The development of human trabecular meshwork

Medical Electron Microscopy, 1994
The fetal development of the trabecular meshwork of the human eye was quantitatively studied by light and electron microscopy. From the 20th fetal week onward, the progressive thickening of the trabecular meshwork was achieved mainly by the widening of intertrabecular spaces, whereas the thickness and the number of trabeculae were almost constant ...

Mechanotransduction Channels of the Trabecular Meshwork

Current Eye Research, 2013
To determine whether the trabecular meshwork (TM), like the other organs engaged in filter like activities (such as kidneys), show the expression of known mechanotransduction channels at protein level.Human donor eye globes (n = 20), Donor eye derived TM tissue and primary TM cells were utilized for these studies.

Pathology of the trabecular meshwork

Medical Electron Microscopy, 1994
We demonstrated pathological changes in the trabecular meshwork in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and various types of secondary open-angle glaucoma eyes. In POAG eyes, a sheath material of the elastic-like fiber was found to be significantly greater in the juxtacanalicular tissue.
