During a one-year period, 31 trabeculectomies were done in 25 patients. Of these procedures, 27 (87%) were done for chronic open angle glaucoma, three (10%) for congenital glaucoma, and one for chronic open angle glaucoma in an aphakic patient. Our overall success rate was 87%.

Trabeculectomy and modifications of trabeculectomy.
Ophthalmic surgery, 1979Seventy-four trabeculectomies have been reviewed and discussed. Intraocular pressure 20 mm Hg or lower was achieved in 74.2% at the end of six months and in 66% one year postoperatively. The influence of age and sex on postoperative maintainance of intraocular pressure has also been discussed.

The more important surgical steps in a trabeculectomy are the creation of a lamellar-scleral flap, the excision of a block of limbal tissue without damaging underlying structures, the creation of a basal peripheral iridectomy, and, finally, the closing of the scleral flap to maintain fluid within the anterior chamber.

Abstract This study comprises 277 primary open‐angle glaucomas in 239 patients followed up to 10 years after trabeculectomy. Sixty‐four per cent had capsular glaucoma and 36% simple glaucoma. The number of cases showing no progression of glaucoma damage and not needing additional medical therapy decreased slowly with time.
