Structural Considerations in Tracheal Disease

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1979
SUMMARY Examinations were made of three sections of trachea obtained from eight dogs. The sections examined were at the regions of the second ring caudal to the larynx, the thoracic inlet, and the origin of the brachiocephalic trunk. Measurements were made of the lateral and ventrodorsal diameters, the lumen area of the trachea, the width and thickness

Management of obstructive tracheal disease in children

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1984
Fifty-two patients from seven weeks to 15 years of age were treated for congenital (six patients) or acquired (46 patients) tracheal lesions. Twenty underwent tracheal resection and reconstruction: congenital stenosis 3 (5 to 9 yr), postintubation stenosis 9 (11 to 15 yr), TEF 1 (15 yr), posttraumatic 2 (9 to 15 yr) idiopathic 1 (14 yr) and primary ...

Castleman's Disease Presenting as a Tracheal Mass

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2014
Castleman's disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder of uncertain cause. The most common site of involvement is the mediastinum. Endotracheal CD is extremely rare. We report a case of unicentric, hyaline-vascular type CD presenting as an obstructive tracheal mass.

Tracheal quadrifurcation associated with congenital heart disease

Pediatric Radiology, 2015
Tracheal anomalies are known in association with congenital cardiac defects. Some of the well-described anomalies include accessory (displaced) tracheal bronchus with variants, tracheal trifurcation and accessory cardiac bronchus. Here we describe a case of tracheal quadrifurcation associated with complex congenital heart disease.

Subglottic and tracheal stenosis associated with coronavirus disease 2019

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2021
AbstractBackgroundCoronavirus disease 2019 critical care patients endure prolonged periods of intubation. Late tracheostomy insertion, large endotracheal tubes and high cuff pressures increase their risk of subglottic and tracheal stenosis. This patient cohort also often appears to have co-morbidities associated with laryngotracheal stenosis, including

Tracheal Hodgkin's Disease Report of a Case

Tumori Journal, 1984
A tracheal localization of a Hodgkin's disease is described in a 28-year-old man. The diagnosis was made on a tissue fragment spontaneously emitted and was confirmed by a tracheoscopic biopsy. Radiologic examination revealed adenopathy of the anterosuperior mediastinum, but no other localization.

Primary Tracheal Papillomatosis Presenting as Reactive Airway Disease

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2002
Typically patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) initially manifest laryngeal disease with symptoms of hoarseness, weak cry, and stridor. Extralaryngeal spread is not uncommon, and distal progression may be facilitated by airway epithelial injury, inducing squamous metaplasia.

Management of tracheal obstruction from thyroid diseases

World Journal of Surgery, 1982
AbstractTracheal or laryngeal obstruction in thyroid disease is such a severe, though uncommon, threat that constant awareness of its occurrence and prevention should be the hallmark of the experienced thyroid surgeon. A high index of suspicion, thoughtful analysis of cases, willingness to accept that such a complication does not reflect on the surgeon'

[Tracheal neurofibroma and Recklinghausen's disease].

Annales de chirurgie, 1992
Neurogenic tumours arising in the trachea are rare; the association with Von Recklinghausen's disease is exceptional. Only two cases of tracheal neurofibroma with neurofibromatosis have been reported. We report on another patient, a thirty year old man, who presented with acute shortness of breath; laser resection was performed via an endotracheal ...

Tracheal Agenesis: A Rare Disease with Unique Airway Considerations

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2003
Abnormal tracheal development causes a spectrum of life-threatening anomalies. We report a newborn with tracheal agenesis and a common "esophagotrachea." Ventilation was achieved first by face mask then with an endotracheal tube. In this report, we describe the types of tracheal agenesis and discuss initial airway management.
