Comparative histological, histochemical, and histometric evaluation of the esophagus in two avian species with different feeding habits (Ciconia ciconia and Buteo buteo)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Histological structure of esophagus. Abstract The aim of this study was to conduct a comparative evaluation of the histological and histochemical organization of the esophagus in two avian species with different feeding ecologies. A total of 6 individuals were used for this purpose (3 storks, 3 common buzzards).

Histamine and the mechanisms of nausea and vomiting: Translating the uncertain pharmacology of cyclizine

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cyclizine is a long‐established, short‐acting drug, registered for preventing motion sickness, post‐operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and ‘vomiting of known cause’. The latter is not defined but may include pregnancy and patients receiving palliative care, historically accepted without large, controlled trials.

Tracheal bullet excreted with the stool: a rare course of events in airway gunshot injury

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Bronchology, 2020
Over the past 10 decades, only five cases have been published of firearm injuries of the chest with conservative management, who in the follow-up expectorated the bullet. We report the first case in the history of gunshot injury chest, where a bullet was

Compliant hydrogel cuff coating with real‐time pressure monitoring and antibiofilm capabilities for ventilator‐associated pneumonia prophylaxis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A soft‐compliant hydrogel cuff coating combines real‐time pressure monitoring with intrinsic antibacterial activity for prophylaxis of ventilator‐associated pneumonia. A flexible pressure‐sensing patch is embedded in the coating to enable wireless dynamic monitoring of endotracheal cuff pressure through Bluetooth.

A novel method of airway management in a case of penetrating neck injury

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2016
Direct injury to airway is a rare event and also a challenge to anaesthesiologist and surgeon. We present a case report of open tracheal injury with right pneumothorax in a young male following assault with a sharp weapon.

Cough Induced Pneumomediastinum Due to Tracheal Tear [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2018
Spontaneous pneumomediastinum associated with subcutaneous emphysema following a sudden bout of cough is rare. Most of such pneumomediastinum would be associated with pneumothorax and would be a result of the ruptured pulmonary alveolus.

Tracheal intubation in traumatic brain injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: We aimed to study the associations between pre- and in-hospital tracheal intubation and outcomes in traumatic brain injury (TBI), and whether the association varied according to injury severity.

Bridging the translational gap in clinical nanomedicine: From rational design to clinical reality

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Nanotechnology offers a multi‐faceted approach to modern healthcare, encompassing high‐sensitivity diagnostic imaging, innovative vaccine delivery, and targeted therapeutics. This review explores how these nanomedicine applications address critical challenges in cancer recurrence and the treatment of neurologic and respiratory diseases to combat rising

Antimicrobial Peptides and Peptidomimetics in Foods – A Synthetic Foray

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
This Review discusses AMPs in foods and their syntheses. It espouses facile methods to make them accessible and suggests their utility in the mitigation and eradication of the burgeoning maladies of antimicrobial and multidrug resistance (AMR and MDR).

Loss of POGLUT2/3‐mediated O‐glucosylation produces lung and aortic phenotypes reminiscent of fibrillin1 mutants

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Fibrillins provide a scaffold for elastic fiber formation, which enables lung recoil and aortic compliance. Abnormal fibrillin microfibrils, as in Marfan syndrome, lead to enlarged alveoli, vascular stiffening, and aneurysms. Our earlier studies suggested that fibrillin function depends on O‐glucosylation of its epidermal growth ...
