Management of tracheal stenosis

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2012
The treatment for pediatric tracheal stenosis has evolved over the past 50 years. Open airway reconstruction has traditionally been the treatment of choice for this condition. Numerous recent publications now support the use of endoscopic techniques to both augment and sometimes replace open procedures.During the past 12 months, a significant interest ...

Pharmacotherapy in Tracheal Stenosis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1975
From our experience in the treatment of immunological diseases with a tendency to the formation of granulomas, we conceived the idea of treating pharmacotherapeutically the scar-tissue formation in recurrent tracheal stenosis. We have combined two medicines with different modes of action, namely, klorokin and penicillamine.

Postintubation Tracheal Stenosis

Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2003
Postintubation tracheal stenosis is caused by either cuff-induced ischemic damage to the trachea, stomal injury from a tracheostomy, or a combination of the two. Patients who present with stridor or unexplained dyspnea after a period of mechanical ventilation should be investigated for postintubation tracheal stenosis. Most patients with such an injury

POSTINTUBATION TRACHEAL STENOSIS

Chest Surgery Clinics of North America, 1996
Resection and reconstruction are the treatments of choice for postintubation tracheal stenosis, attested to by 94% good or satisfactory results in over 500 patients. Accurate diagnosis, appropriate patient selection, and experienced and precise surgical care are important in these treatments.

Tracheal growth in congenital tracheal stenosis

Pediatric Radiology, 1996
Two cases of congenital tracheal stenosis were managed conservatively despite mild to moderate initial respiratory symptomatology in infancy. Serial CT examinations were performed on each child, with tracheal dimensions and cross-sectional areas measured in the region of stenosis at each CT examination.

Tracheal Stenosis

Archives of Surgery, 1976
Tracheal stenosis is not an uncommon sequel of prolonged endotracheal intubation. In some cases, immediate reconstruction is not feasible. We use the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope and a lucent, tapered endotracheal tube for tracheal dilation. The fiberoptic bronchoscope is passed through a special T connector into the endotracheal tube and used to ...

Tracheal Prosthesis for Stenosis

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965
The evolution of a suitable tracheal stent to assist in the management of tracheal stenosis has led to the development of this simplified model. It is made of Teflon tubing in three sizes to accommodate teenagers, adult men, and adult women. A "collar button" stabilizes the stent in the neck thus preventing aspiration or coughing it up.

Congenital tracheal stenosis

The British Journal of Radiology, 1963
Stridor and respiratory difficulty are fairly common complaints in the neonatal period and during early infancy. Accurate diagnosis can often be made by radiological investigation. There are numerous causes, of which one of the rarest is a congenital tracheal stenosis. Two instances of this abnormality are described below.

Endoscopic Treatment of Tracheal Stenosis

Thoracic Surgery Clinics, 2014
For all cases of tracheal obstructions surgery should be considered first. Interventional endoscopic procedures can provide immediate relief. Intraluminally growing tumors can be resected with laser, argon-plasma coagulation, an electrosurgical knife or cryo-probe. Photodynamic therapy of smaller tracheal tumors can be curative.
