Fish communities associated with FADs

open access: yesScientia Marina, 1999
Two groups of six fish aggregating devices (FADs) were deployed at two locations off the eastern coast of Majorca (Western Mediterranean). Samples were obtained fortnightly throughout a two-year period by means of hauls performed with an experimental ...

Fish fauna associated with floating objects sampled by experimental and commercial purse nets

open access: yesScientia Marina, 1999
Based on the commercial surrounding nets traditionally used in the Coryphaena hippurus fishery, we designed an experimental purse seine (64 m long and 14 m high, with a purse line and a central codend of 2 mm mesh) for sampling fish fauna associated with

Workshop 4 on age reading of Horse Mackerel, Mediterranean Horse Mackerel, and Blue Jack Mackerel (T. Trachurus, T. mediterraneus, and T. picturatus) (WKARHOM4)

open access: yes, 2023
Based on the previous work from WKARHOM3 (ICES, 2018), the Working Group on Biological Parameters (ICES, 2020) identified the need for a new otolith exchange followed by an age reading Workshop.

PRESERVATION OF BLUE-JACK MACKEREL (TRACHURUS PICTURATUS BOWDICH) SILAGE BY CHEMICAL AND FERMENTATIVE ACIDIFICATION

open access: yesJournal of Food Processing and Preservation, 2007
We compared acidified and lactic acid fermented silage approaches for the preservation of blue-jack mackerel. Silages acidified with formic and propionic acids had stable pH (3.8) and low (19 mg/g N) levels of volatile nitrogen compounds (total volatile basic nitrogen, TVBN), but relatively high (82 g/100 g) final non-protein-nitrogen (NPN) values. The state of knowledge on four families of Syngnathoidei fishes (Teleostei: Syngnathiformes): Aulostomidae, Centriscidae, Fistulariidae and Solenostomidae

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Knowledge on the ecology and life‐history traits of coastal marine species is vital to inform their conservation and management, especially as their coastal habitats come under increasing threats. However, such data have never been collated for four of the five families in the suborder Syngnathoidei—the close relatives of the better‐studied ...

Reproductive biology of the blue jack mackerel,Trachurus picturatus(Bowdich, 1825), off the Canary Islands

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, 2012
Summary The reproductive cycle of the blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus, had not been described for the Canary Islands. Between March 2005 and March 2006 monthly samples of T. picturatus were collected randomly at the central fishery wharf from the commercial catches of purse-seiners in Tenerife Island waters (Canary Islands).
