Tracking Control for Optical Manipulation With Adaptation of Trapping Stiffness

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2016
In the optical manipulation problem of biological cells, the optical trap works only in a small neighborhood around the centroid of a focused light beam. Due to the Gaussian distribution of light intensity, the trapping stiffness is dependent on the distance between the cell and the centroid of the laser beam.

Force and position tracking: parallel control with stiffness adaptation

IEEE Control Systems, 1998
Force and position control strategies are aimed at handling the interaction of a robot manipulator with the environment. Among them, the parallel force/position control approach offers good performance in the face of uncertainty on the geometry of the contact surface.

Evaluation of Track Support Stiffness and Track Impact factor for Ballast and Concrete Type Tracks

Effect of Foundation Stiffness on Track Buckling

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1976
The present paper deals with the effect of releasing the constraining assumption of using an infinitely rigid foundation in the analysis of vertical buckling of a railroad track due to constrained thermal expansion. The chosen foundation is of the Winkler type.

Retracted: Influence of Track Support Stiffness of Railway Tracks on Track Impact Factor

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2014
AbstractTrack support stiffness (TSS) is used as a quality index of railway tracks to assess their performance and bearing capacity. TSS depends on the elastic stiffness of the elastic materials and the structural characteristics of the track system. The theoretically designed track impact factor (TIF), which is used to design ballasted and slab tracks

The Effect of Track Stiffness on Track Performance

2013
What is track stiffness? There is not a complete consensus on definitions of track stiffness. The most general understanding defines track stiffness as the elastic rail deflection that takes place under a wheel loading.

Behaviour of train–track interaction in stiffness transitions

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Transport, 2012
In the present study, the problem of railway stiffness transitions, for example, railway tracks near bridge abutments or tunnels, was investigated numerically in terms of track deterioration and passenger comfort utilising two types of analysis. The first analysis employed a train–transition curve model which simulates the response of the train to ...

Continuous assessment of the stiffness of tracks at line speed

5th IET Conference on Railway Condition Monitoring and Non-Destructive Testing (RCM 2011), 2011
Track sub-structural stiffness is a major factor in the deterioration of track geometric quality as a result of the rail traffic that passes over it. Whilst track geometric quality has been measured at normal line speed for many years, determination of the condition of the substructure has only been possible at discrete locations using stationary ...

A Study of the Effect of Global Track Stiffness and Its Variations on Track Performance: Simulation and Measurement

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2010
This article investigates the effect of vertical track stiffness, and its variations along the track, on track performance with focus on dynamic responses of the track due to parametric excitations. Two approaches for calculating global track stiffness,

Tracking Controller for Systems Containing a Stiff Nonlinearity

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1993
Abstract In this paper, we present a method for designing a robust tracking controller for systems containing a nondifferentiable nonlinearitiy. It is also assumed that state variables are only partially observable for feedback and so the controller must be based on the observable vector only.
