On the Design of Digital Tracking Controllers
Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1993This paper describes my work on the design of digital tracking controllers over the past two decades. In tracking control, the control object must be moved along a time varying desired output and the transient path error must be minimized. Tracking control is discussed for the following two typical situations: one is the situation where the desired ...

Nonlinear Tracking Control of an Underactuated Spacecraft
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2002In this paper, we design a nonlinear controller for the kinematic model of an underactuated rigid spacecraft that ensures uniform, ultimately bounded (UUB) tracking provided the initial errors are selected sufficiently small. The result is achieved via a judicious formulation, of the spacecraft kinematics and the novel design of a Lyapunov-based ...

Path tracking control for Dubin's cars
Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002The problem of driving a Dubin's car (1957) along a given path is considered. In order to model a realistic road-following problem, the car is supposed to move forward only and to have bounds on the turning radius (Dubin's car). We propose a discontinuous control scheme on the angular velocity of the vehicle, based on the theory of sliding modes, that ...

Adaptive Tracking Control of Industrial Robots
Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1988A design procedure for the synthesis of an adaptive controller for a robotic manipulator is presented. The design involves the evaluation of a nominal input signal by using a model of the manipulator with nominal values of the loads, and of an adaptive component by means of the sole knowledge of the maximum possible size of the uncertain parameters of ...

Robust Control-Based Object Tracking
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2008This correspondence presents a video tracking framework using control-based observer design. It unifies several kernel-based approaches into a consistent theoretical framework by modeling tracking as a recursive inverse problem. The framework relies on observability theory to handle the "singularity" problem and provides explicit criteria for kernel ...

Tracking control of nonlinear systems with bounded controls and control rates
Automatica, 1996Tracking control of nonlinear systems \(\dot x=f(x,u)\), \(y=h(x)\), with \(x\in \mathbb{R}^n\) and \(u,y\in \mathbb{R}^m\) is considered under control constraints and control-rate constraints. A continuous time predictive control approach is proposed provided the system is input-output decouplable and minimum phase.
