Analysis of Traction Forces in a Precision Traction Drive

Journal of Tribology, 1986
A theory for the shear stress between a rough elastic cylinder and a cylinder with a soft layer has been developed. The theory is based on a Fourier transform approach for the elasticity equations coupled with surface deflection equations for transient contacts.

The Nutating Traction Drive

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1981
The unique torque speed characteristic of the single-shaft gas turbine requires that it have a continuously variable-ratio transmission for successful application to automotive use. This paper discusses the development of a novel mechanical transmission which has the power density required for highway vehicles.

Experimental drive characteristics of HEFSM for automobile traction drives

2015 17th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'15 ECCE-Europe), 2015
This paper presents design studies on a hybrid excitation flux switching motor that can compete with an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor installed on TOYOTA PRIUS-2010. A stator body of the hybrid excitation flux switching motor consists of not only laminated core and three-phase armature windings, but also field excitation coils and ...

AC Drives in Traction Applications

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1986
DC motors and drives have previously been the choice for traction applications. The desire to use an induction motor in similar applications has been unfulfilled due to the absence of a suitable ac drive controller that could fully exploit the economical, rugged, and simple ac induction motor.

Belt drives with increased traction capacity

Vestnik Mashinostroeniya, 2023
The design features of belt drive tensioners and belt tensioning methods are studied. A comparative analysis of tensioners showed that special attention should be paid to gears with self-tensioning belts, since neither domestic nor foreign regulatory documents reflect the calculation of such gears. Keywords: belt drive, belt tension method, tensioner,

Smart inverter drive for traction

1998 International Conference on Power Electronic Drives and Energy Systems for Industrial Growth, 1998. Proceedings., 2005
Two advantages of having electric drives in road vehicles are that there is a reduction in the number of mechanical parts and an increase in environmentally-friendly operating conditions. In addition, electric vehicles are not only used for engine-driven acceleration but also for generator-driven deceleration which thus achieves a high degree of total ...

AC drive with particular reference to traction drives

APSCOM-97. International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 1997
New developments in the design of high speed electric trains are discussed, with reference to the AC drive system. The three level converter-inverter system applying advanced IGBTs, which is implemented in the latest Shinkansen train sets operating in eastern Japan between Tokyo and Nagano, is described.

EHL Traction in Traction Drives with high contact pressure

1997
Traction Drives have been considered as smooth and efficient power transmitters and much effort has been carried out to investigate traction Traction theories proposed by Johnson and Tevaarwerk and by Bair and Winer seem to satisfy many tribologists and engineers. However, recent experimental results show some discrepancy from those previously reported.
