Traction Amplified Actuation System for Inspecting Narrow and Complex Pipes Using Enhanced Linear Antagonistic Mechanism-Bend Pipe Passage Model and Force Comparison

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This paper describes the design, experiments, and quantitative force comparison of a Pipe Inspection RObot named PI-RO II using the enhanced linear antagonistic mechanism to amplify the traction.

Dynamics of Torque-Speed Profiles for Electric Vehicles and Nonlinear Models Based on Differential-Algebraic Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The so-called μ — λ curves, where is the slip ratio and μ is the normalised traction force or the friction index, are nonlinear functions of the velocity of the vehicle and the wheel rotational velocity.

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Optimization of traction parameters for lumbar scoliosis

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background Scoliosis is a high incidence disease that endangers the physical and mental health of adolescents. Traction therapy, as a conservative treatment plan, is helpful to improve the recovery speed of patients by studying the influence of different

Understanding crack versus cavitation in pressure-sensitive adhesives: the role of kinetics

open access: yes, 2006
We perform traction experiments on viscous liquids highly confined between parallel plates, a geometry known as the probe-tack test in the adhesion community.

Mathematical framework for Traction Force Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceThis paper deals with the Traction Force Microscopy (TFM) problem. It consists in obtaining stresses by solving an inverse problem in an elastic medium, from known experimentally measured displacements.

Epifluorescence-based three-dimensional traction force microscopy

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
We introduce a novel method to compute three-dimensional (3D) displacements and both in-plane and out-of-plane tractions on nominally planar transparent materials using standard epifluorescence microscopy.

Structure Formation in Butterfly Scales: Interplay of Genetic Control, Mechanical Instabilities, and Dynamic Material Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Butterfly wing scales are intricate cuticular functional nanosctructures. This perspective suggests that spatially varying material properties, cytoskeletal constraints, and growth‐driven mechanical instabilities shape the resulting nanoscale architectures created from single cells.

Experimental Stand Movable Module for Determining the Traction-Linked Properties of Wheel Engines and the Results of Laboratory Researches for Determining the Traction Force of Two-Wheel Tractors

open access: yesИнженерные технологии и системы, 2021
Introduction. Farmers make extensive use of two-wheel tractors equipped with traction and drive interchangeable units. Two-wheel tractors are required to move evenly with minimal slip of the drive wheels on the soil.

Friction-Controlled Traction Force in Cell Adhesion [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2011
The force balance between the extracellular microenvironment and the intracellular cytoskeleton controls the cell fate. We report a new (to our knowledge) mechanism of receptor force control in cell adhesion originating from friction between cell adhesion ligands and the supporting substrate.
