Environmental trade-offs of (de)centralized renewable electricity systems
Background Renewable energies are key to reduce CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts of fossil-fueled electricity generation. However, renewable energy systems can also cause negative environmental effects.

Defect‐free transfer principles enable scalable fabrication of 15 µm‐thin garnet‐based hybrid solid electrolytes. Hansen solubility parameters correlate interfacial compatibility with coating, transfer, and impregnation behavior, guiding rational selection of slurry/substrate, binder/substrate, and binder/polymer electrolyte combinations.

Controlled carbonization of an Al‐MOF partially decomposes its linkers, exposing coordinatively unsaturated Al centers within an oxide/carbon composite. The resulting Lewis acid sites, rather than surface area, govern organochlorine capture: the composite removes chemically diverse organochlorines from waste plastic pyrolysis oil, outperforms a ...

Description: Indium metal serves as a reversible calcium‐alloying negative electrode. By transitioning from planar electrodes to powders and (sub‐)micron indium particles, the specific surface area is increased, improving the areal capacity density and cycling stability for calcium‐based batteries.

Conversion‐induced sulfur expansion generates strong mechanical constraints and localized stresses within solid‐state Li‐S cathodes. Heterogeneous solid‐electrolyte confinement creates tensile strain‐energy hotspots that govern particle cracking. Larger sulfur particles accelerate fracture, while higher porosity relaxes constraint and delays damage ...

Designing a detection experiment: Tricks and trade-offs
Detection experiments are relatively new to weed management and provide an opportunity to assess the capability of weed surveys. Long-held statistical principles such as stratification, randomisation and replication should guide detection experiment ...

The Public (Mis)Understanding of Fiscal Trade-offs – Evidence from a Survey Experiment in Poland
The literature on fiscal attitudes offers evidence of an interesting pattern: citizens simultaneously want higher government spending and lower taxes. However, recent studies argue that this may be just an artifact arising from misleading survey design ...
