On the Analysis of Communication and Computer Networks by Traffic Flow Measurements

open access: closed2006 IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2006
This paper investigates the potential contributions of traffic flow measurements in monitoring and network diagnostics. The basic idea is that information of diagnostic relevance may be obtained from the detection of local anomalies in a traffic trace.

Traffic flow confidentiality security service in OSI computer network architecture

open access: closedIEEE TENCON'90: 1990 IEEE Region 10 Conference on Computer and Communication Systems. Conference Proceedings, 2002
Various issues arising in the placement of traffic flow confidentiality service and encipherment, traffic padding, and routing control security mechanisms in the open system interconnection (OSI) reference model architecture are presented. It is suggested that to provide full traffic flow confidentiality service, a pair of encipherment devices should ...

A dependable routing framework for seamless traffic flow over the computer network

open access: closed2014 International Conference on Reliability Optimization and Information Technology (ICROIT), 2014
This paper proposes a QoS routing framework for real-time mission-critical and life critical communication such as tele-engineering and telesurgery. Such communications are real-time and seamless, and demand the hard timeliness guarantees on message delivery lag-time and recovery delays encountered due to the network component failure.

A Simple and Fast Algorithm for Traffic Flow Control in High-Speed Computer Networks

open access: closed2018 IEEE International Conference on Automation/XXIII Congress of the Chilean Association of Automatic Control (ICA-ACCA), 2018
The development of an algorithm for the control of traffic flows that avoids situations of congestion is a hot topic in the computer networks. This paper presents a mathematical model for a general computer network and then discrete control theory is used as a key tool to design the traffic flow control algorithm that avoids congestion in a high-speed ...

Simulating network traffic flows with a massively parallel computing architecture

Proceedings of the 25th conference on Winter simulation - WSC '93, 1993
This paper presents a traffic network simulation model for real-time applications in IVHS. The proposed model has incorporated three key features essential for IVHS operations: (1) the capability of simulating both freeways and surface street networks as an integrated network; (2) a path-processing capability for representing drivers' route choice ...

On distributed computation of optimal control of traffic flow over networks

2016 54th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2016
In this paper, we adapt the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) to develop a distributed algorithm for computing finite horizon optimal control for traffic flow over networks, where the cost is in terms of the density and flow vectors. The dynamics is described by the Cell Transmission Model.

Cooperative multi-agent actor–critic control of traffic network flow based on edge computing

Future Generation Computer Systems, 2021
Abstract Most of the existing traffic signal control strategies are hard to satisfy the real-time requirements of traffic big data analysis, knowledge reasoning and decision making for sophisticated traffic dynamics and heterogeneous intersection structures in the context of Internet of Vehicles (IoV).
