Stationary traffic on busy roads can present a safety or security risks. This paper reports on an automated algorithm that detects vehicles that have stopped. It is designed for outdoor use and is extremely robust against lighting variations and occlusions. The algorithm performs well and it is tested against several state of the art techniques.

Predictive Monitoring of Traffic Rules
2021 IEEE International Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC), 2021Predicting the trajectories of other road users relies to a large extent on the assumption that they adhere to the legally binding traffic rules. Hence, when this assumption does not hold anymore, the prediction becomes invalid, putting autonomous vehicles relying on such predictions in a critical situation.

Fast monitoring of traffic subpopulations
Proceedings of the 8th ACM SIGCOMM conference on Internet measurement, 2008Network accounting, forensics, security, and performance monitoring applications often need to examine detailed traces from subsets of flows ("subpopulations"), where the application desires flexibility in specifying the subpopulation (e.g., to detect a portscan, the application must observe many packets between a source and a destination with one ...

iCloud Traffic Control and Monitoring
2014 UKSim-AMSS 16th International Conference on Computer Modelling and Simulation, 2014An intellectual (smart) road infrastructure is proposed to monitor and control traffic in real-time through the use of global systems for positioning and navigation, mobile gadgets and the Internet in order improve the quality and safety of vehicle movement, as well as for minimizing the time and costs when vehicles are moved at the specified routes. A

Cloud traffic monitoring and control
2013 IEEE 7th International Conference on Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems (IDAACS), 2013A cloud on-line service “Green Wave Traffic” called the Intellectual Road Infrastructure (IRI) is proposed to monitor and control traffic in real-time mode through the use of traffic controllers, RFID cars, global satellite navigation and positioning (GPS, GPRS) in order to improve the quality and safety of vehicle movement, as well as for minimization

Traffic statistics desired by road engineers and planners, and "traffic warning" systems demand real-time performance which precludes the use of batch processing. We apply recent real-time trading techniques along with scene specific tuning of the dynamics to enable the tracker to accurately predict target location and thus reduce the amount of search ...

Modelling and monitoring highway traffic
2017 International Conference on Control, Automation and Diagnosis (ICCAD), 2017This paper deals with a detection approach that tries to solve major problems of traffic flow by combining a higher order modeling tool and the principal components analysis. This modeling system is applied to the data preprocessing level. The PCA is introduced for fault detection by comparing the method of SPE and Hotteling T2.

Urban Traffic Monitoring System
2012Traffic video analysis is a challenging problem: crowded moving vehicles with various appearances, illumination changes, and speed variations according to the traffic flow. In this paper, we propose an efficient single-camera Traffic Monitoring System (TMS), which is capable of automatically analyzing the vehicles flow on urban streets in real time ...
