Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Customized passenger path optimization for airport connections under carbon emissions restrictions

open access: yesSystems Science & Control Engineering, 2023
In response to the challenge of optimizing customized passenger transport paths for airport connections while taking carbon emissions constraints into account, this paper proposes an optimization model that minimizes the total cost by addressing ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Enforcing fuel-optimal traffic patterns

open access: yesEURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics, 2021
Traffic Assignment (TA) models route choices of users of a road transport network assuming a known relationship between traffic flow and travel cost, and fixed demand between origin and destination points in the network. In this paper, we consider the case where the users’ travel cost function is a weighted sum of travel time, fuel consumption, and ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Robust Signal Control of Exit Lanes for Left-Turn Intersections With the Consideration of Traffic Fluctuation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Traffic throughput at intersections can be improved by using exit lanes for left-turning (EFL), tidal flow lanes near an intersection, which has been recently introduced. This paper considers the operational robustness of the EFL intersection in relation

On optimal routing with multiple traffic matrices [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings IEEE 24th Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE Computer and Communications Societies., 2005
Routing optimization is used to find a set of routes that minimizes cost (delay, utilization). Previous work has addressed this problem for the case of a known, static end-to-end traffic matrix. In the Internet, it is difficult to accurately estimate a traffic matrix, and the constantly changing nature of Internet traffic makes it costly to maintain ...

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,
