Adaptive traffic signal control using fuzzy logic

[Proceedings 1993] Second IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, 2002
We present a distributed approach to traffic signal control, where the signal timing parameters at a given intersection are adjusted as functions of the local traffic condition and of the signal timing parameters at adjacent intersections. Thus, the signal timing parameters evolve dynamically using only local information to improve traffic flow.

Road traffic demand estimation and traffic signal control

Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Engineering and MIS, 2019
A transport network is a complex non-stationary open environment with multiple heterogeneous stochastic agents such as intersection controllers and road users. Changes in such a network may occur due to random demand fluctuations, supply degradation, or actions of agents.

Algorithms for traffic-signal control

IBM Systems Journal, 1965
Algorithms for the design of traffic-signal progressions for fixed-time control are described. Least-squares and minimax fits are used to derive solutions for given volume requirements within specified limits of speed and cycle time. The algorithms have been programmed for processing on a digital computer, thus reducing the initial design time ...

Saturation Flows at Signal-Group-Controlled Traffic Signals

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1997
The main goal of this research was to update the basic saturation flow values of signalized intersections. The secondary goal was to analyze the effects of certain external factors (such as weather, road, and traffic conditions) on saturation flow. The updating is based on extensive field measurements and simulations.

Introduction to Traffic Signal Control

1989
(a) Describe the traffic and site conditions which justify the installation of signal control at a priority intersection. (b) Discuss the factors which affect the maximum number of vehicles which are discharged per cycle over a traffic signal stopline.

A hierarchical traffic signal control of a traffic network

SICE '95. Proceedings of the 34th SICE Annual Conference. International Session Papers, 2002
This paper presents a traffic signal control system and a hierarchical control algorithm of a traffic network. The traffic signal control system of the traffic congestion length is described by a linear time-varying discrete dynamic system in the traffic network.

Neuro-Fuzzy Traffic Signal Control in Urban Traffic Junction

2019 22nd International Conference on Control Systems and Computer Science (CSCS), 2019
In our neuro-fuzzy controller, the parameters of the fuzzy membership functions are adjusted using a neural network. The neural learning algorithm may then be considered as reinforcement learning. However, the major difficulty for this neuro-fuzzy system under consideration is such that the most usual neural learning algorithms cannot be used.

Multi-objective traffic signal control model for traffic management

Transportation Letters, 2015
Traffic signals are one of the main traffic management tools used to control traffic flow on the roads and should reflect traffic managers' intentions in different tasks. This paper showed a multi-objective optimization model, and its algorithm was aimed at the intricate structure of traffic control.
