Shadowgraphic observations of the flow structure of a wall jet downstream of the trailing edge of a flat plate were carried out. Shadowgraphs obtained at jet exit Mach number 0.3 to 0.8 consistently showed an orderly large oscillatory flow structure. It is believed that these large scale disturbances are the result of flow instabilities.

A study is made of the laminar flow in the neighbourhood of the trailing edge of an aerofoil at incidence. The aerofoil is replaced by a flat plate on the assumption that leading-edge stall has not taken place. It is shown that the critical order of magnitude of the angle of incidence α* for the occurrence of separation on one side of the plate is ...

Aircraft wings are usually optimized for a specific design point. However, since they operate in a wide variety of flight regimes, some of these have conflicting impacts on aircraft design, as an aerodynamically efficient configuration in one instance may perform poorly in others.Conventional wing structures preclude any significant adaptation to ...

Subcomponent testing: Trailing edge
2023Sub-component testing of a trailing edge segments which were cutout from a rotor blade of a wind turbine has been demonstrated to successfully work under static compression, e.g., buckling. However, the actual and representative loading a blade is subjected to in field is a cyclic tension-compression or tension-tension load depending on the position ...

The flow is examined in the neighbourhood of the trailing edge of slender aerodynamic shapes which terminate in either a cusp or a wedge. The manner in which the boundary layer reacts to the rapidly varying pressure field in such regions is analyzed using the method of matched asymptotic expansions. The case of a wedge is examined in greater detail and

Summary: The structure of the flowfield in the vicinity of the trailing edge of a flat plane at zero incidence in mixed transonic flow has been studied using viscous-inviscid interaction methods. The resulting nonlinear partial differential equations governing the flow were solved numerically using finite-difference methods for a range of values of a ...

Trailing-Edge Noise from Hovering Rotors
AIAA Journal, 1982A method has been developed to predict the high frequency broadband noise due to the interaction of convecting turbulent eddies with the trailing edges of a hovering rotor. The trailing edge noise from each blade was modeled as point dipole noise with spanwise loading corrections. This point dipole approximation was checked by applying the concept to a
