Real-Life Application of a Wearable Device towards Injury Prevention in Tennis: A Single-Case Study

open access: yesSensors, 2022
The purpose of this article is to present the use of a previously validated wearable sensor device, Armbeep, in a real-life application, to enhance a tennis player’s training by monitoring and analysis of the time, physiological, movement, and tennis ...

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

Evaluating the Reaction to a Complex Rotated Object in the American Quarter Horse (Equus caballus)

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
It is dangerous for both riders and horses when a horse suddenly startles. Sometimes horses do this in familiar environments because familiar objects may look different when rotated. The purpose of this study was to determine whether horses that had been

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Effect of Intermittent Hypoxic Training on Selected Biochemical Indicators, Blood Rheological Properties, and Metabolic Activity of Erythrocytes in Rowers

open access: yesBiology, 2022
The study assessed the effect of 3-week intermittent hypoxic training on blood biochemical indicators (blood morphology, fibrinogen), blood rheological properties (erythrocyte deformability, aggregation), erythrocyte enzymatic activity ...

Training a training system

open access: yesProceedings of the 11th international conference on Intelligent user interfaces, 2006
We are interested in using game technology to provide an engaging and immersive environment for experiential learning of workplace situations. Narrative intelligence will be used to provide the adventure. For authoring we provide an adaptive interface that allows the direct capture of the workplace situations and the knowledge driving the interaction ...

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...
