Perceptual Training and Reading Achievement in Disadvantaged Children

Peripheral Vision Training in Reading Speed and Comprehension

Of two groups of 8 college students receiving 15.75 hr. of speed reading training, an experimental group was given an additional 2.25 hr. of peripheral vision training. Peripheral vision increased for both groups, but reading speed improved only in the trained group. Reading comprehension scores were not affected.

Reading improvement in English- and Hebrew-speaking children with reading difficulties after reading acceleration training

A reading acceleration program known to improve reading fluency in Hebrew-speaking adults was tested for its effect on children. Eighty-nine Hebrew- and English-speaking children with reading difficulties were divided into a waiting list group and two training groups (Hebrew and English) and underwent 4 weeks of reading acceleration training.

Effect on Reading Comprehension of Training to Automaticity in Word-Reading

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Automaticity training, aimed at decreasing latencies to read a specific set of words, was given to an experimental group of third-graders. A control group of third-graders was not given this training. Following training, the cloze method was used to test the reading comprehension of texts composed from the training words.
