Hippo pathway effectors are associated with glioma patient survival, control cell proliferation and sterol metabolism through TEAD3

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 35, Issue 6, November 2025.
The Hippo pathway transcription factor TEAD3 represents an independent prognostic biomarker of tumor recurrence and a potential therapeutic vulnerability through its regulation of cholesterol metabolism in glioma. Abstract Glioblastomas represent the most common and lethal primary brain tumors in the world.

Analysing resilience of European beech tree to recurrent extreme drought events through ring growth, wood anatomy and stable isotopes

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 4, Page 955-973, April 2025.
Recent drought events in Central Europe have caused widespread forest dieback with detrimental effects on forest functioning. We investigated the physiological processes linked to water and carbon constraints involved in the resilience of beech cambial growth to drought.

Estimated and in vivo measurements of bite force demonstrate exceptionally large bite forces in parrots (Psittaciformes)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 2, Page 299-315, February 2025.
Bite force in parrots has been explored using data from muscle masses. The values were validated by comparison with data for bite force collected from live parrots. The parrot's reputation for a strong bite force is well founded. Abstract Jaw morphology and function determine the range of dietary items that an organism can consume.

Comparison of GPR signals over simulated clandestine graves with domestic pigs (Sus Scrofa domesticus) and human remains

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 69, Issue 6, Page 2054-2068, November 2024.
Abstract Studies assessing the use of ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) for locating unmarked human graves commonly use pigs as proxies, with recent concerns about the adequacy of pigs as substitutes for humans. Also, there is little agreement on how to identify and describe GPR signals associated with graves.

Forecasting potential invaders to prevent future biological invasions worldwide

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 7, July 2024.
We developed a reliable, robust and defensible tool that can identify attributes of invading alien species and predict which species worldwide, with no prior history of invasion, have the potential to become invasive. Showcasing our tool on amphibians and reptiles worldwide, we found 160 species are likely to be unintentionally transported and ...
