Error-Prone PCR Mutagenesis Reveals Functional Domains of a Bacterial Transcriptional Activator, TraJ [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2012
ABSTRACT TraJ is the essential activator of P Y , the promoter of the F and F-like plasmid tra operon that encodes the majority of the proteins for bacterial conjugation. By combining error-prone PCR mutagenesis with a two-plasmid screen, we isolated 55 missense mutations in

Two flavor QCD and Confinement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We argue that the order of the chiral transition for N_f=2 is a sensitive probe of the QCD vacuum, in particular of the mechanism of color confinement.

Batch Nonlinear Continuous-Time Trajectory Estimation as Exactly Sparse Gaussian Process Regression

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we revisit batch state estimation through the lens of Gaussian process (GP) regression. We consider continuous-discrete estimation problems wherein a trajectory is viewed as a one-dimensional GP, with time as the independent variable.

Accumulation of the F plasmid TraJ protein in cpx mutants of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1993
We report here studies of the cellular control of F plasmid TraJ protein levels, focusing on the effects of chromosomal cpx mutations. The principal conclusion from our results is that the cpx mutations impair accumulation of the TraJ protein, thereby reducing tra gene expression.

Joint state-parameter estimation of a nonlinear stochastic energy balance model from sparse noisy data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
While nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations arise naturally in spatiotemporal modeling, inference for such systems often faces two major challenges: sparse noisy data and ill-posedness of the inverse problem of parameter estimation.

JRDB-Traj: A Dataset and Benchmark for Trajectory Forecasting in Crowds

open access: yes, 2023
Predicting future trajectories is critical in autonomous navigation, especially in preventing accidents involving humans, where a predictive agent's ability to anticipate in advance is of utmost importance. Trajectory forecasting models, employed in fields such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and navigation, face challenges in real-world scenarios ...

Assessing Late Antique villa transformation at individual sites: towards a spatial approach

open access: yesTheoretical Roman Archaeology Journal, 2021
This paper builds on the methodology for assessing the transformation of Roman villas in Late Antiquity. Previous studies have moved from simple identification towards a more holistic way of spatially visualizing transformation (for example, Chavarría ...
