Parallel exempla : a theological reading of Dante's terrace of pride (Purgatorio X-XII) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The terrace of pride is framed by three examples of humility (Pg. x.34-93) and twelve (or thirteen) examples of pride (Pg. xii.25-63); its centrepiece is Dante-character's encounter with three prideful souls (Pg. xi.37-142).

Whole‐Genome Sequencing in Galicia Reveals Male‐Biased Pre‐Islamic North African Ancestry, Subtle Population Structure, and Microgeographic Patterns of Disease Risk

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 24, 31 December 2025.
Whole genome sequencing of Galicians (GALOMICS; 17.2 M variants) reveals a genetic landscape consistent with broader Iberian patterns, characterized by only five clusters. Phylogenetic analyses indicate recent divergence and mild regional inbreeding.

Dual Isotope Analysis Reveals Phylogenetic Patterns and Novel Insights Into Methoxy Group Synthesis of Structural Biomolecules in Leaf and Woody Plant Tissues

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 12, Page 8483-8501, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Stable carbon and hydrogen isotopes of wood methoxy groups (δ2Hmeth, δ13Cmeth), mainly sourced by structural biomolecules like lignin and pectin, provide important insights into climatic, hydrological and physiological conditions. This study systematically investigated species‐specific δ2Hmeth and δ13Cmeth variations in leaves and woody twigs ...

A Modular Microfluidic System to Generate Gradient Hydrogels with Simple‐to‐Complex Stiffness Profiles for Mechanobiology

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 22, November 19, 2025.
This work introduces a universal approach for fabricating stiffness gradient hydrogels with diverse stiffness ranges and gradient profiles. Gradient formation is achieved by precisely controlling the thermal landscape within a microfluidic system, which drives thermophoretic redistribution of precursor components in solution.

Typothesis: A Study of Warde\u27s Crystal Goblet, Leeuwen\u27s Typographic Meaning and How it Relates to the Bible [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The way readers interpret the written word is changing. We look for information almost as much in between the lines as we do in the words themselves. The internet and its tools offer ways for readers to engage the text like never before — can the printed

Substrate Effect on the Contribution of Ammonium and Urea to Marine Nitrification and Nitrous Oxide Production

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2025.
The urea to ammonium concentration ratio is a good predictor of the relative importance of urea and ammonium to nitrite and N2O production in the ocean. In addition, the urea to ammonium ratio may be a key factor in shaping the genetic capability of marine ammonia‐oxidising archaea for urea utilisation.

Frontinus' cameo role in Tacitus' Agricola [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Frontinus appears only once in Tacitus' Agricola, at a moment in the text where Tacitus is filling in some background, sketching a rough history of the Roman occupation of Britain up to the time when Agricola took over as governor of the province.

TRAJANIC TREES: THE DACIAN FOREST ON TRAJAN'S COLUMN [PDF]

open access: yesPapers of the British School at Rome, 2018
Trajan's Column stands in the centre of Rome as a proud monument to Trajan's triumph over Dacia in the early second century. On its 29 m tall shaft, a helical frieze depicts the events of the two wars which won the province for the Roman Empire. There are 224 trees to be found throughout this relief, 222 of which are native to Dacia.
