Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A Data Cleaning Method for the Identification of Outliers in Fishing Vessel Trajectories Based on a Geocoding Algorithm

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
In modern fishery management, fishing vessel trajectory data are used to monitor and analyze fishing vessel activities. However, trajectory data are often of low quality, probably due to environmental factors, equipment failures, signal loss and ...

Research on Traffic Congestion Forecast Based on Deep Learning

open access: yesInformation, 2023
In recent years, the rapid economic development of China, the increase of the urban population, the continuous growth of private car ownership, the uneven distribution of traffic flow, and the local congestion of the road network have caused traffic ...

Sequential pattern mining from trajectory data [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 17th International Database Engineering & Applications Symposium on - IDEAS '13, 2013
In this paper, we study the problem of mining for frequent trajectories, which is crucial in many application scenarios, such as vehicle traffic management, hand-off in cellular networks, supply chain management. We approach this problem as that of mining for frequent sequential patterns.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Empirical Studies on Merging Characteristics in Temporary Highway Work Zones with Different Traffic States and Layouts

open access: yesAlgorithms
Vehicles conduct mandatory lane changes to merge into the open lanes in temporary highway work zones, and the merging characteristics have been widely studied over the past decades.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A Novel Framework for Online Amnesic Trajectory Compression in Resource-constrained Environments

open access: yes, 2016
State-of-the-art trajectory compression methods usually involve high space-time complexity or yield unsatisfactory compression rates, leading to rapid exhaustion of memory, computation, storage and energy resources. Their ability is commonly limited when

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
