Levinas’s Philosophy of Transcendence
2018Commentators neglect the transcendence of fecundity in Totality and Infinity in focusing on that of the face. They thereby overlook, first, how substitution in Otherwise Than Being fulfills transcendence as an excendence and, second, how fecundity responds to Hitlerian racism’s reduction of the I to the biological body.

Transcending natural philosophy or disregarding metaphysics?
Bochumer Philosophisches Jahrbuch für Antike und Mittelalter, 2020AbstractAlbert’s anthropology places the human being at the top of a hierarchy of living things in virtue of a unique feature – namely the intellect – that offers the possibility of transcending the changing realm of nature and of assimilating its possessor to their divine creator.

Transcendence and Immanence in Modern French Philosophy
Abstract This chapter traces a reversal in French philosophy from an advocation of the transcendent sovereignty of consciousness in spiritualism to the materialist affirmation of immanence. It begins with the nineteenth-century ‘querelle du panthéisme’ and the double interpretation of Descartes as the philosopher of transcendent ...openaire +2 more sources
