Transcranial Doppler ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 1999
Transcranial Doppler ultrasound allows measurements of blood flow velocity to be made from the basal intracerebral vessels. The major advantages of transcranial Doppler ultrasound are that it is non-invasive, relatively cheap, can be performed with portable machines, allows monitoring for prolonged periods, and has a high temporal resolution making it ...

Modern Management of Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis: A Meta‐Analysis of CREST‐2, SPACE‐2, and ECST‐2

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Recent randomized trials (CREST‐2, SPACE‐2, and ECST‐2) have compared carotid revascularization (carotid endarterectomy [CEA] or carotid artery stenting [CAS]) plus contemporary medical therapy (CMT) versus CMT alone in asymptomatic carotid stenosis.

Re‐Purposing Sapropterin (Kuvan) for ACTA2‐Related Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome: A Translational Mechanistic and First‐In‐Human Therapeutic Report

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...

Head-to-Head Comparison of Transcranial Random Noise Stimulation, Transcranial AC Stimulation, and Transcranial DC Stimulation for Tinnitus [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2013
Tinnitus is the perception of a sound in the absence of an external sound stimulus. This phantom sound has been related to plastic changes and hyperactivity in the auditory cortex. Different neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have been used in an attempt to modify ...

Enhanced Ultrasound Transmission Through Aberration Layers Using Space‐Coiling Acoustic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Enhancing ultrasound transmission through an aberration layer exhibiting mismatched impedance with the surrounding medium possesses great implications in imaging and treatment. In this study, we show that a space‐coiling acoustic metamaterial with judiciously tailored structural profile can help improve impedance matching.

Transcranial extraventricular endoscopic surgeries: Expanding the role of endoscope in neurosurgery [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Neurosurgery
Background and Aim: Transcranial endoscopic surgeries are mainly limited to intraventricular lesions. This study aims to elaborate on the various benefits of transcranial endoscopic surgeries in extraventricular regions of the brain.

Clinical characteristics and frequent risk factors in young adult patients with stroke at a tertiary care hospital in Honduras

open access: yesFrontiers in Stroke
BackgroundStroke has become the third leading cause of death, accounting for 10% of all deaths. The prevalence of intracranial hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and ischemic stroke has increased by 20.5%, 11.5%, and 7.4%, respectively, in the 20–54 ...

A Whole‐Head Finite Element Model for Electrical Neuromodulation via Visual Brain‐Machine Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal, personalized head model is presented that integrates the entire visual pathway with surrounding tissues to simulate electrical stimulation of the optic nerve. In vivo validation in humans and goats, plus systematic component‐elimination analysis, demonstrates the high accuracy of the comprehensive model.

Intravital Multimodal Imaging of Human Cortical Organoid Transplantation in a Mouse Model of Chronic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal intravital imaging platform enables longitudinal tracking of human cortical organoids transplanted into chronic stroke lesions. By combining surgical microscopy, MRI, bioluminescence imaging, and two‐photon fluorescence microscopy, the platform captures graft placement, viability dynamics, and cellular‐scale morphology in vivo, offering a ...
